Wrote this the day CC got elected to the Hall of Fame and I stand by every word.
Will forever be the Yankee I grew up with. My childhood ended when his career did. When my dog Yogi died a few months ago, I made a pact with myself that the next dog I get will be named CC. Legend.
I grew up with CC Sabathia.
To a generation of fans who missed the prime Jeter/Rivera years, THIS was the guy we watched. I was born in 2001 and started following the Yankees in 2010. I watched the whole CC journey: the superstar, then him battling through injuries and alcoholism while reinventing himself as a pitcher along the way. He was the first athlete I watched who truly embodied tenacity, grit and devotion.
I consider the moment my childhood ended to be the moment he walked off the mound with a subluxed shoulder in the 2019 ALCS- and he STILL stayed in the game to throw three pitches with a SEPARATED SHOULDER. 17 year old Max Mannis held back tears at the Stadium, then got home, let it all out, and got back to work on college applications. CC was no longer, and I was moving into the next chapter of my life too. I'll never have that connection with another MLB player.
I'm so so so SO happy for CC. I hope he knows that the joy he brought to Yankees fans extended well beyond the baseball field. See you in Cooperstown, big man.

So overall... how are we feeling about the Yankees entering the playoffs?
Gotta believe in Schlittler, Fried and Cole in the Wild Card. They've been too good not to. The thought of not going Cam in Game 1 still seems dumb to me, but the Yankees should win it regardless, ESPECIALLY if Boston doesn't have Contreras.
After that... we haven't won a playoff series as the road team in a LONG time, but truthfully this Rays team really doesn't scare me THAT much. Playing at the Trop is the scariest part for me (Yanks have never played a playoff series there), but if we can split in Tampa, I'll feel pretty good coming home.
This AL is as weak as it's ever going to be. Judge or no Judge, the path to a World Series appearance is there. I just hope they don't embarrass themselves in the process with the way they handle the Judge injury, because that has potential to be EASILY the biggest story of October if they do.
