Rubio has been doing the job on an acting basis since May 2025, after Michael Waltz left. He already is secretary of state. Now both titles are permanent.

I was honored to accept the endorsement of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association and bring attention to the public safety challenges in our state prisons.
Assaults on corrections officers are up. Assaults on inmates are up. Drug trafficking in state prisons is pervasive.
Did you know, synthetic drugs are sprayed onto paper, smuggled into the prisons in what looks like legal mail, and placed in the hands of inmates and officers, poisoning them on contact? It’s awful.
AG Letitia James isn’t doing anything about it. She cares more about going after law enforcement officers than ensuring the public safety of New Yorkers.
As a federal prosecutor, I prosecuted assaults on corrections officers. As Chief of Staff of the DEA, I went after synthetic drugs and the people who put them in our communities. When I am Attorney General, I will take action to make New York’s prisons safer — for the people who live and work there.
