Bradford is getting a brand-new station 🚆
Today the Government has confirmed a new station at Bradford Interchange, putting our city at the heart of Northern Powerhouse Rail.
That means more trains, quicker journeys across the North, and up to £1 billion boost for our economy.
A city this ambitious deserves a station to match. Now we’re getting one.

This ironclad commitment to a new station is an important milestone for Bradford.🤝🚆
The city has so much untapped potential, and faster, more frequent trains to Leeds and Manchester, alongside the transformation of its centre, will help to finally unleash it.💪

Where you grow up shouldn’t decide how far you go.
Yet the findings of the @ChildrensComm are clear – while talent is everywhere, opportunity isn’t.
Bradford has successfully reduced its share of 16 to 17-year-olds not in education or employment from 6.8% to 4%, but we could do so much more with the right powers and funding to join up services at a local level.
For too long, our national politics has worked for some places and not others. Now is the time to invest in the futures of those growing up in the UK’s youngest city to give them a fair chance to flourish.

I'm proud to be part of this important work to tackle misogyny.
If we’re serious about ending violence against women and girls, we must challenge the behaviours underpinning it.
I’ll bring West Yorkshire's voice and experience to the table, working together for lasting change.

I couldn't be more excited to see the doors open on our very own Brit School.
Alongside our amazing creative colleges and universities, Brit North will send a powerful signal to young people across the North of England that you can make it here.
A brand new college to nurture the next generations of British talent 🇬🇧
Plans for a new specialist creative college in the heart of Bradford have been submitted.
BRIT North will offer free, specialist education for up to 500 students aged 16–19, with courses spanning music and music technology, performing arts, production arts, creative media and digital design.
Inspired by the music industry’s long history in supporting creative education, BRIT North will give young people across Bradford and West Yorkshire the opportunity to develop skills and pursue careers in the creative industries.
Subject to planning approval, the college will be located at Jacob’s Well in Bradford city centre.
More details will be shared as the project develops.

Cllr Carlill will be much missed in his role at Leeds City Council.
As deputy chair of our Transport Committee, he brought a real depth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and a cooperative spirit to his brief – helping us to bring buses back under public control and improve transport across West Yorkshire.
I wish him all the best for the future and know he will continue to serve his part of the city well.

I promised to bring buses back under public control, and we're doing exactly that.
Signing the first contracts for services is the next step to improving our public transport.
For the first time, operators will run buses on behalf of passengers, to standards set by us.

As someone who grew up in a council flat, today's news is personal.
I want every child in West Yorkshire to have that same stable foundation that I had.
Now, over £440 million is coming to our region to build thousands of much-needed council and social homes.

Fly tipping is unacceptable.
It scars our streets and green spaces, and we shouldn't have to put up with it.
We’ve now got the funding to clear one of our worst illegal dump sites, and with today’s announcement, we’ll be one of the first regions to bring partners together to tackle waste crime and protect our neighbourhoods.
