That is what a Karnataka High Court Division Bench at Kalaburagi has held, dismissing her appeal for divorce under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act. The Family Court at Bidar had already rejected the petition in 2022. She had not said she asked him to contribute and he refused. Other allegations — dowry, and a forcible abortion — failed for want of pleading or medical proof. Spending your own money is not evidence that someone else was cruel. A 24-year-old has been arrested in Gurugram after a man alleged a three-year extortion. Police say Suryadita Das, whom he met on a dating app, threatened him with a false rape case. She was allegedly caught taking ₹50,000 in marked notes. About ₹95 lakh in her account has been frozen. The alleged total is around ₹90 lakh. The case is under BNS section 308(5). She has not been convicted. A rape allegation must be investigated. Using the threat of one to extract money must be investigated too. Due process protects the innocent. Veteran actor Nana Patekar is no more. He was 75. A child coached to hate a safe parent is not a “theory.” It is a wound. Canada’s Bill C-223 — the Keeping Children Safe Act — has passed second reading and is still before committee. It is not law. If passed as reported, courts could be barred from considering evidence that one parent deliberately turned a child against the other, and limited in ordering steps to repair that bond. Abuse allegations must be investigated. Always. A finding that contact is unsafe should end the argument. But erasing alienating behaviour from the courtroom does not protect children. It protects the parent who controls the story. A label can be misused. Coaching, loyalty tests and blocked calls are still facts. Courts should be allowed to hear them — from either parent. Equal rights. Equal accountability. The child’s best interests. Due process for everyone.
