Reminds me of poet John Betjeman’s observation that if the end of the world comes , he wanted to be in the haberdashery department of Peter Jones as nothing horrid ever happened there. ( quoted oft here as one of my favourites)
Morning Bradfans. If I was caught up in the riots in France I would go to the nearest bookshop.

Cyril Power’s linocuts always evoke my 13 years working in London.
London’s thrilling underground network, 1961. “Visitors are always fascinated by the escalators, the brightly-lit stations, and the rush of the trains from the dark tunnels”. Artist: Robert Ayton (1961)

Ah I see we’ve reached the ‘stealing new trainers’ stage of the riots
France in total chaos.

“That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.” Like Netflix subscriptions.. Any chance of turning your government’s mind to the economy / immigration etc etc?
You know that feeling when you book a flight for 50 quid and somehow it ends up costing 100? Getting seats together, correcting a typo, another charge here and there, it all adds up. When the cost of living is already squeezing people, those endless extras can feel relentless. So we're changing the rules for you. Parents won't need to pay a penny extra just to sit next to their own children. You'll be able to fix any name errors on your booking free of charge. And because the last thing you want once you're on the plane is more stress, we're working with the industry to make sure that disruptive passengers who have been banned from one airline can be banned from flying with other airlines too. I know holidays are expensive and these are small things, but hopefully they'll make your trip just that little bit cheaper and easier. That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.

I hope history demonises Macron and Merkel ..
Never forget: this is actually on Macron. The young Africans and Arabs in France are just following their tribal interests and behaving in expected ways. Macron and his political class have imported them by the millions, naturalized them, and hunted down patriots who wanted to stop it.

These Africans and Arabs have the best life in the entire history of their tribes. They were offered EVERYTHING in France. What have they achieved, let alone paid back in generations? They chose to burn it all down. They will tear us down to the level of their homelands if we don't bring them home. This is the last decade to save our civilisation. Then we will have to flee from our states.

After "I Swear" scored seven BAFTA Scotland nominations, the British Academy has said Tourette's campaigner John Davidson will watch the ceremony "via video link from a separate relaxed space within the venue." BAFTA and Davidson were at the center of controversy in February when he involuntarily shouted a racial slur at the Film Awards. variety.com/2026/film/global…

I’d always intended to stop at Carlisle ( let dogs into Costa on the concourse) but nearly had a heart attack whilst overtaking and loud squawk from dashboard “tiredness detected / take a break”. I did indeed need to pee but thought I’d got engine failure. A66 shut both ways 🤬

The original sin of Brexit was not allowing Vote Leave to own the project after victory. In wrestling power from the people who won the referendum, insane internal machinations within the Parliamentary Conservative Party prevented those who campaigned for the outcome from delivering that outcome. From the start the whole project was decapitated. And so here we are now, ten years on, having repealed precious little EU law, pursuing no supply side reform, indeed still building a £125m bat tunnel in order that HS2 abide by the retained EU Habitats Directive. For the best part of a decade the political class stole the victory from the people. And now they have the temerity to say their own failure is actually the fault of the people for wanting an independent country.
