We have been intensely critical of both the beef imports from Argentina and the USDA’s handling of the New World Screwworm (NWS) crisis — our stance has remained the same for over a year But this is an example of misinformation There is no correlation between the beef imports from Argentina and the NWS crisis The NWS CANNOT infest raw and/or cooked meat and presents no risk to beef The NWS can only infest LIVE warm blooded mammals, presenting a risk to livestock, wildlife, pets and unfortunately in some cases, humans

UPDATE: New World Screwworm is no longer contained to Texas. USDA says that the infested dog announced earlier today lives in Lea County, New Mexico and will be reclassified as the first detection in that state. And now a goat in Gillespie County, TX, has also been confirmed.

The harsh reality is that you will be seeing more of these New World Screwworm (NWS) confirmations every 24-72 hours for the next few months—it’s really tragic What’s more tragic is that that USDA had plenty of time to act in the last 15 months to minimize and even prevent this crisis from unfolding —it’s just where we are However, we stand by the assertion that there are certain actions the USG could take right now that would minimize impact, and we pray the Administration takes them as soon as possible So we’re going to stress a few points: 1. The beef that you eat is safe. Period. — NWS infests LIVE warm blooded animals, it DOES NOT affect raw or cooked meat — best thing you can do right now is find a local producer and support them 2. If you are a pet owner, practice vigilant wound care — check regularly for open wounds, doctor them, keep them covered up, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors 3. If you are a producer, you probably already know this, keep a closer eye on your herd and keep in close contact with your vet — we have faith that the ranching community knows their herd better than anyone else, and that they will be extra vigilant monitoring and doctoring during this crisis — early detection and treatment is key — your vet will have the most updated information and treatment protocols available 4. If you need help, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us. BREAKING: USDA confirms 2 additional cases of New World Screwworm in Texas A calf in La Salle County in South Texas A dog in Andrews County in north west Texas on the border of New Mexico

Reported is the key word. I had pictures and vid of the calf in LaPryor before any officials were notified. I think the problem is being hushed or is very disorganized.

No infected wildlife carcasses have been reported between the U.S.-Mexico border and the two confirmed New World Screwworm cases in Zavala County, Texas calves, roughly 50–60 miles north. While officials attribute the jump to natural dispersal, the absence of any intermediate detections—despite active surveillance, traps, and sterile-fly buffers—makes an undetected leap by a fly that normally travels only a few miles highly improbable, strongly fueling suspicions of intentional mischief, such as deliberate transport or release of infested material aimed at disrupting U.S. cattle operations. Aggressive genetic tracing of the Texas strain is essential to determine whether this was sabotage or coincidence.
