One of the worst things Stephen Harper did is convince even the so-called progressives in Canada that World War One was honourable and not despicable. He laid the bricks in the walls of the cult of militarism that grips Canadians so ferverently now.

They hate socialism because they know we're gonna make them get real jobs, and the people who become socialist billionaires will actually add something valuable to society, like they do in Chinese socialism. And if they get out of line... well, we see what happened to Jack Ma.

This is the biggest misconception of socialism! The purpose of the working class revolution is NOT to protest for more government. The state is a tool of the ruling class to maintain capitalism and oppress the working class. The purpose of the revolution is to initially replace the capitalist state with a workers’ state to put the economy in the people’s hands. Then after this transitional phase is complete and the politicians who sell out workers are removed from power the state withers away and the people manage themselves. That is socialism as outlined by Karl Marx. The end goal is to liberate the people from capitalism AND bourgeois governments that exist to enforce capitalism.
