This morning, I was delighted to tour the newly opened Black Health and Social Services Hub in Brampton with @Charmomof5. Supported by our government, this Hub provides barrier-free access to primary care, mental health services and more, tailored to the needs of the community.

We are deeply saddened by the news that a member of the Belleville Police Service was shot in the line of duty while responding to gunfire at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue. Our thoughts are with the injured officer, and we wish them a swift and full recovery. We hold their family, friends, colleagues in the Belleville Police Association, and all those present at the synagogue in our hearts. Last night, as Jewish communities across Canada and around the world gathered to observe Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, this tragedy is felt even more deeply. Keeping Toronto safe requires strong partnerships. Police-Public-Private Partnerships are essential. The work between @TorontoPolice and @JSNSecurity helps us share information more quickly, strengthen situational awareness, and improve our ability to respond, particularly during times of heightened concern. This partnership is one example of our broader commitment to strengthening collaboration across Toronto, whether with community organizations, businesses, security partners, social service agencies, or other stakeholders.

I want to wish Jewish communities across Ontario a meaningful Yom Kippur. On this holiest day in the Jewish calendar, may this time of reflection, prayer and renewal bring peace and hope to all those observing. G’mar Chatima Tova.

I’m disgusted by the shooting that took place outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville earlier this evening as Jewish community members gathered to mark Yom Kippur. My thoughts are with the Jewish community in Belleville and across Ontario, who have every right to gather and worship safely and without fear. I expect that all those responsible are arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. My thoughts are also with the police officer who was shot, along with their family and loved ones. We owe an immense debt of gratitude to this brave officer and to all the first responders who acted so quickly to keep the community safe.

As part of our government's historic expansion of medical education, we are creating and expanding medical schools across Ontario. This includes two new medical schools, bringing the total to eight schools that will train our province's future doctors for years to come.

It was great to be back onsite today for the official opening of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793’s new Regional Office and Training Centre. We’re proud to support the next generation of skilled workers with a nearly $5 million investment to help build this brand-new facility.
