Got a better moment on the overnight to take a look at the upcoming Winter Storm that almost ALL models are showing now. There's gonna be details to sort out but this is gonna be a pretty solid snow blast for the LITERALLY the first snow of the season across the Northeast. I don't remember seeing a "first snow" of the season being a storm this good in forever. The 500mb trough is well phased with the likely coastal low and we get temps dipping down where you want.
Question for me on this storm will be, what will the temps be in the valleys and here in Albany. Outside the valley like Catskills, Berkshires, Green Mountains, this is gonna be a big snow maker regardless for how much cold air this system is dragging out of Canada at night on Friday. VERY good chance we get below freezing in Albany. 100% this could be a long 16+ hour film session storm.
Held off till tonight but yeah both the GFS and EURO 00z runs showing a powerful Nor'easter for us in the Northeast Friday and Saturday and that could be a solid snow maker with a perfect cold air profile from 500mb to the SFC.
EURO going with a classic Miller B Nor'easter as the dying OH low reformed a new coastal low and that could be a big snow system. GFS goes bonkers with a classic Nor'easter that holds more inland. Snow almost for sure is happening next week. Hell of a way to kick off what could be a very snowy Winter Season here in Albany and the region.
