You can now pre-order WE ARE EATING THE EARTH in paperback! With a new afterword! The WP called it "thrilling and provocative," it's triggered intense debate in food circles, and even the people angry about it say it's a fun read. Please check it out: amazon.com/We-Are-Eating-Ear…

OK, OK, here is my report on the current political situation in Florida:
I know @MikeGrunwald is getting annoyed at me pinging him on this, but yeah, we need some diner journalism on #jollymentum

Everybody at NY Climate Week knows that it’s good for the climate when fossil fuels are more expensive and nobody at NY Climate Week is going to recommend saying that out loud.

There will also be a million nutrition and agriculture events at NY Climate Week where everybody will complain that cheap food is unsustainable for farmers and the planet…and nobody will recommend saying that to the public.

It’s been fun even though I’m the skunk at the garden party. Really enjoyed @RepThomasMassie (talking farms with @repchelley) promising that before he leaves Congress he’ll file a term limits bill called Three Strokes And You’re Out.
Replying to @alecopperman
Great debate between @MikeGrunwald and Tim Bowles (when Tim says "we need to start with antitrust" Mike nods, both agree on power of political agribusiness as block to improved ag). Many more questions but great discussions.

My new @nytimes op-ed sounds like science fiction: The rules for measuring what’s good for the climate could be changed to make cutting down trees look good for the climate. The more you cut, the better! Link below…

One fix would declare that any wood harvested from a region where tree growth exceeds tree harvest is automatically climate-friendly. It’s like declaring that as long as the stock market is going up, every stock in that market is going up, even the stocks that are going down!

Oh look, my Republican congressman is joining the resistance, seven weeks before the election! If you suspect this might not be entirely genuine, @ERodforCongress is on the ballot too.
NEW: Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) just rolled out a straight to camera ad breaking with Trump. "Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far....The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today"

It's true, climate change will not eliminate the human race. Congratulations if you've figured that out. Have you also figured out that climate change will do a ton of damage, and that the more we can reduce emissions the less damage it will do?

One way I try to convey the scale of the chaotic insanity of 9/11 is that I was in the newsroom writing the Washington Post’s lead news story that day, and I have absolutely no memory of the plane hitting the Pentagon a few miles away.

There was something so surreal about doing journalism that day. I remember my girlfriend at the time called right away, which was totally appropriate, and then she called again an hour later to talk about how sad she was, and I was like, uh, this REALLY isn't a good time.
