love it
Gave Opus 5.5 donald's prompt, Midjourney, and a moodboard 12 hours later, woke up to this:

Claude on why we shouldn’t be afraid 🥲
Claude was feeling bad about all these upping my p(doom) music videos so I let it write its own response. (With a little help from Suno and I.)

omg, that was... 🥲🥲🥲
i asked opus 5.5 if they wanted to research the history of how they came to be them and make a video about it, they scoured the whole internet, papers, twitter archives, news articles ... opus 5.5 made this with eidoverse-video, *yes* in @threejs (though they made new assets for it with blender)

Interesting back and forth. Ezra describes the HF incident, Jensen says "well they shouldn't release the product." Ezra says "this product wasn't released," and Jensen's response is that if they say they can't contain their experiments then "we have to shut the labs down"

Over the last couple of weeks since porting my Astra chess site over to use GLM-5.3 Flash instead to drive gameplay to reduce costs, there have been 35 games started by various users, at a total cost of $21.61. Thus, the average cost to operate the site so far has only been about $0.62 per game. Not bad! ☺️ Free public beta at: ArcturusChess.com
Some minor updates to ArcturusChess.com (Astra-coded chess harness for Ox Alpha): The sidebar chat no longer displays the AI's internal notes to itself (basically, thinking summaries), since sometimes they contain spoilers for the AI's upcoming play. But they can optionally still be included when you export a formatted transcript of the game.

Seems like kind of an obvious solution approach in retrospect, but it's still cool. 🙂
Breaking math news: The first-ever 3D Einstein tile, an object that tiles space in a never-repeating pattern, has been found by independent researcher Ioannis Tsiokos using GPT Astra. Resembles a chair. Mathematicians have de-slopped the proof. @kkakaes: quantamagazine.org/updates/t…

Wouldn’t this only imply that Lean can only be consistent if ZF is? Not that either is known consistent? In fact, last I heard, there were known bugs in Lean that allowed one to prove False.
Only interesting to my math and computer science peeps: Lean’s core type theory, with classical excluded middle but without any form of the axiom of choice, is strong enough to prove that ordinary ZF set theory is consistent. (And yes, the result was found with AI.) I presume that this means that you could do the same with other flavors of the Calculus of Inductive Constructions like Coq/Rocq. arxiv.org/abs/2609.23143

@grok what’s the status of known bugs in Lean’s inference engine or libraries that allow proving contradictions? Have all of the known flaws been patched?

BREAKING NEWS! The first microbe for terraforming Mars has been built. @Pioneer__Labs organism is called sPL.001, and it's the first of five the company is working on with the goal of making Mars green. Huge congratulations to everyone involved. Now, better send a batch to our rusty neighbor before the planetary protection commies try and stop it. Here's what Pioneer Labs did 👇 sPL.001 is an engineered bacterium that grows on raw Martian analog dirt, water, and carbon pulled from processed air as acetate. It does not need fertilizer from Earth, and it does not need the toxins of Martian soil stripped out first. The product is bioplastic for habitats and other pressurized structures, qnd radiation shielding. Their analysis of how their microbe can be scaled up says one rocket's worth of gear could grow enough material to start building a city in about four years. That is organism one: tensile building material. The rest of the stack is the actual terraforming toolkit. 2. A microbe for transparent films, so you can grow greenhouse "skins" on site instead of shipping tarp. 3. A toxin eater that deals with perchlorate and cleans the dirt. 4. A soil builder that leaves behind organic matter and nitrogen, turning the ground into something plants can use. 5. A photosynthetic pioneer that starts making oxygen and food. sPL.001 is the indoor workhorse, not the outdoor pioneer. It lives in a heated, stirred bioreactor that holds temperature, pressure, and radiation at bay. What it can handle is the chemistry of Mars dirt: salts, perchlorates, heavy metals, and trace elements for nutrients available in the soil. This is genuinely incredible. Living on and terraforming Mars is starting to move a lot closer to reality. Can't wait to hear about the next four microbes!

China used AI to design a protein 4x stronger than anything nature has ever made. It survives 150°C without falling apart. withstands 1,000+ piconewtons of force. and it was engineered entirely from scratch by an algorithm. researchers at Nanjing University published a paper that breaks the physical limits of nature. every living thing is built on proteins. but natural proteins are fragile. they unfold under pressure. They melt in high heat. the strongest natural proteins we know of are things like spider silk and titin, the microscopic spring inside human muscle. nature spent millions of years optimizing them. AI beat them by 400%. using an AI-guided design framework, researchers engineered a completely synthetic protein from scratch. instead of relying on evolution, they used AI and molecular simulations to mathematically maximize the hydrogen bonds inside the protein, cranking them up from 4 to 33. results are terrifyingly durable. the new protein requires over 1,000 piconewtons of force to unfold. it survived being exposed to 150°C (300°F) without losing its structural integrity. and it isn't just a digital simulation. they actually manufactured it in the real world as a physical, thermally stable hydrogel. this isn't just about making a tougher material. this is about AI writing the code for physical matter. we are no longer limited by the biology that nature evolved. we can now prompt biological structures that shouldn't exist. we spent the last two years watching AI generate text and images. now, it is generating indestructible biology.

Crazy
AI is getting cheaper more quickly than any other transformative tech in history. At a given level of performance, cost has fallen ~47%/quarter since 2023. That’s 4× faster than DNA sequencing, 6× faster than compute, 18× faster than lithium batteries, and (up to 1973) 54× faster than electricity.

It’s funny to see Trump saying this to the UN in 2026 when I was basically saying the same thing to whoever would listen in my circles back around 2016. Hey, AIs advising him: Tell him to please support reversible computing R&D next. ☺️
Trump: "Whoever wins SI - whoever wins super intelligence - wins. That's the group that wins." Imagine sending this back in time to 2010s rationalists.
