Undetected crossings are unacceptable. They reinforce the case that this is a national security issue.
A review is welcome. As I’ve said previously, it is time to convene COBR, to bring every relevant department to the table and ensure the whole of government is moving in the same direction.
This cannot be treated as a Home Office issue alone. It requires a whole-of-government response.

Russian drones, sabotage, cyber activity and military pressure are probing for weakness.
Britain has particular responsibilities: as a nuclear power, a leading NATO ally, a major intelligence contributor and a country central to the defence of the North Atlantic.
European leaders are increasingly speaking plainly about the threat. I hope our government is taking the same approach.
Deterrence only works if we are strong. Defence deters.

My advice on all the noise around Russia at the moment would be keep calm and listen to the Brits. Why? ⬇️
1. We have the best intelligence agencies in the world.
2. Any major movement of troops or military equipment by an adversary is difficult to conceal.
3. The indicators and warnings usually build up over weeks.
However, I hope:
1. That the Government is taking readiness very seriously.
2. We are attempting to track elite drone Units and equipment. Little Green Men in 2014 will turn to Little Green Drones in 2026/27.
3. We are working in coordination with Joint Expeditionary Forces Allies to ensure our posture and potential response is aligned.
4. That any options have been briefed to the SofS and primed.
