If your child entered Kindergarten in PVD in 2014 (the first year assessed by Hopkins report) the system had proficiencies of 10% Math, 14% ELA. That child will graduate next year with 16% Math, 18% ELA proficiency in the system. Your child was given up on. Demand better.
All the "adults" have been fighting for control of the "system" in PVD. It's not about the students languishing in illiteracy, or the inability to understand a multiplication table - it never was. They only care about the the system. They'd rather rule over the ashes than fix it.

Let's not forget that RI withheld the federal tax credit for scholarship that could help ... denying a life preserver to the drowning.

That child should not be graduating unless and until they can read and write on grade level. There is no excuse for failure to educate.

So the take over by the State accomplished nothing? We have thrown it back to the City hoping for a different outcome…sadly the outcome will be more money for the Unions almost guaranteed because a socialist mayor @DavidMoralesPVD is about to be elected…in the meantime time dumber and dumber are our children.

How about stop wasting money on programs that don’t address the deficits. PVD is currently using ARC (American Reading Company) that does not help emerging readers. Or Eureka 2 which only gives minimal practice of strategies that don’t fix being unable to add/subtract to 10.

Demand better from who? The state failed these kids. The bureaucracy at RIde showed how useless a state education agency really is. Local control and better transparency can help. But, follow the money and see where there was waste.

Providence schools have become a bridge program to the ACI.

The school system is a disgraceful mess. Totally lost focus on their core reason for existence.

When the President of the RI Senate is actively participating in the teachers union you know its power and money for politicians not education
