Independence Elementary won the lottery! Thanks to the Lottery Commission for a great big check for school supplies. Idaho supports its public schools! 🎓

Today was a great day for Star as we celebrated the ribbon cutting for Independence Elementary School! This beautiful new school shows what we can accomplish when we invest in Idaho students while remaining responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. Thanks to funding from the State of Idaho, Independence Elementary was built without relying on local property taxes or requiring a property tax increase to fund its construction. That means more classrooms for a growing community without placing the cost of building the school on local property taxpayers. Congratulations to the West Ada School District and everyone who worked to make this project a reality. A special congratulations to Principal Jeff Christopherson, who I know will do an outstanding job leading Independence Elementary and building a school where students, teachers, and families can thrive. Congratulations to the students, staff, families, and the entire Star community on this exciting new chapter. Here’s to many years of learning, growth, and success at Independence Elementary!

Our hearts are with the people of Twin Falls tonight. This senseless act of violence has shaken our state and left countless families grieving. I am deeply grateful to the Twin Falls Police Department, first responders, and all the law enforcement officers who responded with courage and professionalism to protect lives and secure the scene. Janet and I mourn those who have lost their lives, pray for those fighting to recover from their injuries, and stand with every person affected by this horrific event. I ask the people of Idaho to keep the victims, their families, the injured, first responders, and the entire Twin Falls community in their thoughts and prayers in the difficult days ahead.
