Unfortunately, since this 1998 piece, modern military academies have replaced ancient wisdom with DEI.
Going through some old papers on a rainy weekend, and I found the 1998 Boston Globe expose on the woke, DEI, vegetarian culture we were trying to push at the Naval War College almost 30 years ago, shortly after I arrived. (Coincidence? I think not.) Here you go.

Much of the money spent on these programs was probably wasted. Foreign-language majors often graduate without proficiency, and most multilingual people learned their languages in childhood. There is little reason to subsidize this at scale beyond a relatively small cohort.

One of the most damning things about this is how much intellectual status society has conferred on nonsense.

I have a congenital heart defect. I am rather certain that I am going to die young as a result of this nonsense in medical schools. I have almost resigned myself to apathy about it. Every time I see a physician, I have no idea if he or she is actually qualified to treat me.

Setting aside Harvard’s massive endowment and its ability to fund itself, if the university is still discriminating against white and Asian applicants, that alone should disqualify it from federal funding.

Higher ed seems hell-bent on eroding whatever public trust it has left. One of the biggest reasons for that collapse is how expensive college has become, yet institutions keep raising prices anyway. insidehighered.com/news/quic…

I am indifferent to whether a course could be delivered by AI (they are PhD level! Everyone says so!) but if a university wants to resist accepting transfer credit for an AI delivered courses, new rules will be needed. nas.org/blogs/article/how-se…

There’s a deeper problem, though: the concept of a college or university that conservatives want to recreate—a place where the intellect can be cultivated in a haven of reasoned inquiry, all undertaken in an idyllic setting held apart from the world—no longer exists. The infection of identity politics isn't limited to American universities. When a closed-door committee overrides a clear mandate for hard science just to secure a diversity headline, they signal that optics matter more than excellence.

"You don't have to lie to be kind. You don't have to water words down. You don't have to undermine the truth to be kind." In this episode of Night Class, @johnwesleyreid of the Immanuel Lutheran School in Washington DC, and @maggie_mckneely of Concerned Women for America examine how Americans remember national tragedy, political violence, and moments that test the boundaries of civic discourse.
