Today we remember October 7 - the single worst attack against Jews since the Holocaust. Murder. Rape. Abductions. Destruction. We musn’t forget or trivialise the heinous crimes committed by Hamas, while ensuring that such acts are never repeated through durable peace.

Vestas bravely does what I wish more of our companies would do: understanding the nexus between maintaining our industrial base, trade & economic security Our companies continue to face major hurdles in China, & it continues to worsen. It’s time Europe stands for our businesses
Vestas CEO: “Five years ago, Chinese authorities barred Vestas from monitoring or running its own software on turbines. If European software isn’t welcome in China, why should Chinese software and turbines be welcome in Europe’s grid?” fortune.com/2026/10/02/vesta…

At what point will our leaders start defending our interests rather than that of our adversaries?

This is what internalised postmodernism produces: erase the distinction between good and evil, then explain away aggression as the natural behaviour of great powers. Hitler’s Germany invaded Poland; Putin’s Russia invaded Ukraine. Apparently, that is simply what great powers do. By this logic, responsibility shifts to the victims for refusing to surrender. Those foolish Poles and Ukrainians, wanting to defend their ridiculous little countries. But surrender did not protect the Polish officers murdered at Katyń. They were already Soviet prisoners, disarmed and incapable of resistance, when the Soviet authorities ordered their execution. Auschwitz exposes another flaw in this reasoning. People were deported there and murdered because of who they were, above all because they were Jews- not because they had chosen to fight. Their extermination was a deliberate Nazi policy, not a consequence of their refusal to surrender. Neither surrender nor the absence of resistance guaranteed survival. Any argument that blames resistance for the loss of innocent lives must confront that fact. Carlson refuses to weigh lives saved when judging those fighting aggression, yet treats aggression itself as ordinary great-power behaviour. He demands absolute restraint from those confronting aggressors while granting the aggressors the excuse of geopolitical necessity. His logic collapses: great powers are excused for starting wars, while their victims are blamed for resisting. What a repulsive character.

I sincerely pray for this encouraging news. It’s time to #FreeJimmyLai
Jimmy Lai's name came up at last week's Trump-Xi summit. President Trump told @DailySignal he discussed political prisoners with Xi Jinping, including Jimmy. "I think we had some very, very important discussions," he said. Jimmy is 78 and has spent nearly 6 years in prison. He is serving a 20-year sentence. This is absolutely spot on from @jamiemfly. Let’s not fall for Lukashenka’s games - again. We need to remain principled and maintain pressure to ensure his illegitimate regime releases ALL political prisoners.
Recent political prisoner releases in Belarus are welcome. But more than 800 people remain arbitrarily detained, and the Lukashenka regime continues to imprison people for dissent. Freedom House CEO @jamiemfly explains why the international community cannot lose sight of those still behind bars and why a free Belarus matters for Belarusians, Ukraine, and European security. Very much agree: and political will, deterrence and implementation are the key
No more naivety on China. Europe must defend its own interests. We must strengthen trade defence instruments, diversify crucial supply chains, reduce raw material dependencies, ratify trade agreements, and boost Europe’s competitiveness at home.

Spot on from my friend @MPIainDS
The Trump / Xi summit highlights the fundamental problem the West faces with China. Trump does people. Xi does strategy. Trump believes a personal relationship can deliver a deal, whilst China looks decades ahead and never loses sight of its objective to become the world’s dominant economic and military power. lbc.co.uk/videos/2JsSfFaPPWc… While the West talks, China is building its military at an extraordinary rate, backing Russia and Iran and increasing the threat to Taiwan. Britain and Europe have allowed our defences to become dangerously weak We have relied on America for our defence for far too long, failed to invest in our own capability and diminished our influence as a result. If we want a seat at the table, we have to earn it. China has a strategy for the West and knows where it is going. The question is whether the West has the resolve to respond.

Oh look ⁦@BYDGlobal⁩ electric vehicles are reportedly easy to hack. Your mic, steering wheel, and doors can easily be accessed and controlled remotely, and the manufacturer is under a legal obligation to hand your data to the Chinese Government upon request. Sounds fine.

What we are witnessing is continued Russian attempts to spread fear, hate and divisions. It is all the more infuriating when our political leaders do their bidding.

I sincerely welcome the reaffirmation of the 1951 deal. The access denial and investment screening of our adversaries is of course an important new development. A good day for transatlantic security.
BREAKING: Officials on all sides who have been briefed on the US-Denmark-Greenland deal tell me they are happy with the details. A senior State Department official and a regional official briefed on the deal say the highlights are: - Provides US permanent basing, access, and overflight rights - Bans non-NATO bases - Screening mechanism for investments that would allow a block on Chinese, Russian investments - Greenland population can choose its political future - No territory transferred to the US

My prayers are with you dear Claire and your father 🙏🏼❤️ everyday
Claire Lai has been diagnosed with cancer at 30. She has started chemotherapy, and for at least four months she can't travel to advocate for her father. Jimmy Lai has been in prison for nearly 6 years. Time is not on his side. "Four months for someone my age is not a long time but four months for my dad is." On this tragic day 9/11, we remember the innocent victims of heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks. May we continue to honour their memory & continue to defend our freedom against those who wish to destroy it. We will not forget, and we will not give in.

‘China is somewhat nestling’? I’m sorry to madame Commissioner Kos, but perhaps she hasn’t got the memo about Chinese influence and penetration in the Western Balkans?? Such dismissive attitude is out of touch, unacceptable & runs counter to our interests. Via @Euractiv

Once again evidence emerges of the PRC aiding Putin’s war machine. We need to stop pretending that the PRC is an honest broker. Sanctioning a few Chinese companies is all well, but this runs deeper, and requires a more robust response. politico.eu/article/china-st…

This sentencing is utterly shameful. It highlights not only the suppression of basic freedoms in Hong Kong, but the CCP’s desire to hide its own crimes. We will not forget.

On 21 August 1968 Soviet tanks invaded Czechoslovakia. Occupation. Murder. Tyranny. Emigration. But they did not crush our desire for freedom. 1968 is an important reminder that we must not only protect our freedom & democracy, but stand with those still fighting for theirs

So now it is ‘extraterritorial activism’ if the EU wants to address market distortion by Chinese companies within our internal market? Of all Beijing’s arguments, this is particularly stupid. If a company wants to operate in the Single Market, they need to follow EU rules.
Big breaking news from Chinese media: CCTV says Beijing has ordered entities not ‌to implement or assist with the EU's foreign subsidies probe into e-commerce giant JD.com, saying it constituted "improper extraterritorial jurisdiction"
