I’m reposting this from back in May because there will be more on this wild story coming soon…
Ok so here goes. After I finished my book about my CIA parents and it was being edited, I called my childhood friend Paul Ramsey to ask for help launching the book at SXSW in Austin since he was an original in the Austin music scene. When I told him that my mom and dad were CIA and described the book, he quickly became enthusiastic and shared this story: He said that his father Jones Ramsey, who was the Texas Longhorns Sports information director in the 1960s, had told him in his old age that his close friend Darrel Royal, UT football coach and best friend of LBJ in LBJ’s later years… that LBJ told Royal that he had been “summoned” to Fort Clark by “them” for a meeting in which he was told of the planned assassination of JFK. According to Royal, LBJ was told he could either go along or meet the same fate. That Fort Clark location rang a bell with me and I went back to my family photo album and found photos from September 1963 of my CIA parents at a deserted Fort Clark.
