Current AI systems can already do many tasks much faster and in some cases even better than any human. If one (sensibly) thinks that they are still not conscious, why believe that if they get even better, as they surely will, than consciousness will at some point emerge?

Why not just acknowledge that computation and consciousness are just fundamentally different and no amount of computation by itself will bring about consciousness?
