Regardless of what happens on October 19, whether Option 2 wins or loses, people need to understand something. The Alberta independence movement is not going anywhere. And I do not say that because I expect us to lose. Quite the opposite. Every day, I believe more Albertans are waking up to the reality of what our relationship with Canada has become. More Albertans are questioning the status quo. More Albertans are looking at what leaves this province, what comes back, and who ultimately makes the decisions that shape our future. I believe that on October 19, Option 2 will win. And I believe that victory will begin moving Alberta into the next stage of this conversation. But regardless of what happens on one day, in one vote, the idea of Alberta independence is only going to grow from here. Not because people are stubborn. Not because they refuse to accept an election result. And not because they are determined to start new parties and divide the right. It is because Alberta independence is bigger than a political party. Bigger than a campaign. Bigger than a platform. It is an idea. At its core, it is a political philosophy about what Alberta is, what it could be, and whether Albertans should govern themselves. And once someone sees it, they cannot unsee it. Once you come to believe that Alberta functions as a tax colony for the rest of the country, that realization does not simply disappear after an election. Once you see enormous amounts of wealth leaving this province while governments thousands of kilometres away impose laws and policies that do not reflect Alberta’s interests or values, you do not just forget it. Once you understand the structural problems with Confederation, the fiscal relationship, equalization, and the enormous difficulty of fundamentally changing those arrangements from within the existing system, you cannot simply go back to pretending those problems do not exist. That is why Alberta independence is not going away. For the people who have reached that conclusion, this is no longer about one referendum. It is not about one campaign. And it is not about one election cycle. It is about the belief that Alberta’s long-term future requires becoming a self-governing, independent nation. And with every passing day, more Albertans are beginning to ask themselves the same question.

Reminder about the peaceful demonstration in NYC this Sunday 9/27! I went to my first demonstration ever in August, the day after first learning about Wang Wang. I felt like I had to do something. It was super uncomfortable at first - I’m a very private person, and chanting in Times Square was extremely uncomfortable (to say the least!). But I thought about how trivial my discomfort and problems were compared to what happened to Wang Wang. And I was so energized by the amazing passion and compassion of our community. Wang Wang, I - and many other amazing people - will be speaking up for you all the way in New York City…a world away from the little place you called home. You’ve touched people around the world.
