A thing I find interesting about hornworms is that their horns get smaller as they grow up, you'd kinda expect the opposite
And with supernumerary instarred caterpillars, they actually fully lose their horn (view images below)
it's fascinating, such mysterious creatures
Random caterpillar fact: Caterpillars will randomly grow into "supernumerary instars", meaning a caterpillar that molted one too many times
These caterpillars will have a slightly different color, and be MUCH bigger
They are very pretty, however—

I want to shed some light on what theyre being fed
The thing you see caterpillars being fed in my posts is something called "Repashy Superhorn", its a solid gel made of plants, vitamins, proteins and calcium, among other things
I'll give a bit more info on this in replies

The Oberthuri Silkmoth, A moth that has been nicknamed "the femboy moth" due to its unorthodox leg patterns
The oberthuri silkmoth is a yellow moth that evolved to have black and pink striped pattern on its legs that stop at its "knees", very similar to how most thighhighs socks are designed
Researchers have tried to find ANY reason as to why it couldve evolved like this, maybe its camouflage? Maybe its for mating purposes? But no, none of those things matched up
The oberthuri silkmoth seems to have evolved like this for the love of the game, and they look ✨️fabulous✨️

The thing thats cool about supernumerary instarred caterpillars is that their bigger size makes them much easier to observe from closer and make out details
heres Metroplex (the supernumerary caterpillar shown in the previous post) chewing on fresh chow

Slowmotion of a hawkmoth's wingbeats
Regular moths have a wingbeat of around 10-30, while hawkmoths are MUCH higher at 70-85 per second
It's nice to watch :]]
unlike regular moths and butterflies, hawkmoths fly very cleanly and dont sway at all
A flying hawkmoth has full control over its flight path and can make turns abnormally quickly, its like an animation of a PNG being dragged around, its super cool :]
