Let's take stock of what happened in the past 24 hours. Porsche introduced an incredibly important car. A car that does not exist in their line up permanently. Yet. Then, @elonmusk & @Tesla introduce a car . . . a couple of days late. They claimed 'weather problems'. Many of us thought, 'yeah, right' but now with the gift of hindsight, not at all bluffing. That landed - see what I did there - the @tesla roadster right on top of the Porsche Mission S concept reveal. To say the contrast was stark is the understatement of the century. Then this. Then, Porsche's own social media took down their official X post on the Mission S. Why? The comments/responses were brutal to a level that I as a car guy have not seen about a reveal, Luce included. But that's the internet. In the real world, we just entered a new time. Wow. Just wow. Reflecting. That reflection will most likely turn into an episode.

Twenty-five years. I remember the horror. I also remember how we looked after one another in the days that followed. I wish we had held on to more of that. Today, our regular programming pauses to remember the people who never came home, those who went toward the danger, and the families who still carry that day. May their memory be eternal.

This happened to me on Friday night. VERY aggressive Tesla driver comes screaming up behind me on a rather deserted Mulholland Drive. Knowing folks like 'spirited' driving up there, I speed up to give a little distance. He's stays on my tail. Then the light comes out. Not a spotlight. Something much more. Intensely blinding. He is now trying to pass me. I let him but of course, he falls right back in behind me. Does this three or four times. Now well aware this is not a car guy trying to get the road to himself. My NYC driver kicks in and I pull off at the next side street. He follows. I come to a full stop. He pulls right beside me and blinds me with what could only be described as a stadium flood light. He banks on me standing down. He picked the wrong guy. He takes off and I go after him to get the plate. He's now got the light facing backwards as I try to catch up. Sadly, the VW crossover I am driving does not have enough thrust to keep up with the white Model 3. I pack it in to live to fight another day and report it to @LAPDHQ. First, if this same guy tried the same stunt on you, DM me. This kind of person does not belong in polite society. We all know this is not the first time he tried this and it will end badly for some unsuspecting person trying to take in the views from that same road. Second and the more disturbing: How can someone get away with a stunt like this? Answer: He knows he is not going to get caught. And if he does, nothing will happen. This is the part about living in California the media doesn't tell you: The system is set up to make it nearly impossible for someone like me to bring this guy to justice even if I got his plate and video of him doing it. Law & order are the backbone of a functioning society. In my 20 years of living in LA, I have witnessed the systematic dismantling of this bedrock and sadly this is the THIRD instance in as many years of being exposed to violent bad actors like this. abc7.com/post/torrance-south…

Brilliant breakdown . . . and a very sobering reason why we have been including resale into our #OptionsGame segment for a couple of years now. Well done.

A GREAT watch for all #AVGeeks - Behind the scenes look at the herculean task of moving the @SpiritAirlines fleet by @Nomadic_OMD & @SteveNomadic on behalf of the lessors. Yes, I was expecting to learn what was involved in rolling into a major airport & saying 'Uh, yeah, I'm here to repo that US$100M Yellow jet, can you gas it up and arrange for a tug?' What I was not expecting was the story of the people behind the scenes at Spirit - even ending the documentary with a powerful song written & performed by Spirit flight attendant Nicole Gregory, 'Yellow Bird'. Well done, Team Nomadic. Documentary: youtube.com/watch?v=moEixIux… Nicole & House of 7's excellent song: youtube.com/watch?v=Aepqkovl…

As an #AVGeek, I feel compelled to share this amazing story of what the aviation community you don't see is really like. So many levels of this story: A father/son pilot duo, a team of folks coming together to support a stranger and even in the face of significant change as a business, the @SouthwestAir DNA shines through to save the day . . . Thank you for honoring John properly.
🚨 HEARTWARMING STORY OF THE DAY Southwest pilot Chris Jackson and his retired Spirit Airlines dad, John Jackson, turned a heartbreaking moment into something special. Spirit shut down right before John’s final retirement flight. No last flight, no big sendoff… until Southwest stepped up BIG TIME. Chris: “I whispered one thing to the captain… and the whole crew ran with it. Passengers, family, everyone came together.” They gave John the full treatment, water cannon salute, champagne, and a hero’s goodbye on his son’s airline. John: “It was overwhelming. A bright spot on a sad day. Southwest treated me like family. I’m proud my son flies for them.” Chris added: “Spirit has amazing people with a great culture. This was two of the best in aviation coming together for my dad.” From dad teaching his son to fly… to the next generation honoring him. This is what America and real aviation families are all about. Class act by Southwest!

Following on the heels of two big German introductions this week featuring 'questionable' aesthetics comes this: Simplicity in a lovely but powerful package. 2,800 pounds. 402 @BMW horsepower. 0-60 in 3.6. Sweet baby Jesus I need this - and I say this as a devout @Porsche guy. Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way: Dear @morganmotor, @MorganWest7 & others will sell the sh*t out of this in US. Even more if you ask @BMWGroup to send you those B58s with the 'Handschalter' package. Please make it so. Vielen dank, A recovering Lotus guy living in Socal

This reporting is wrong on so many levels. Far too much to debate here but what I take issue with the most is the absolute misinformation supposed 'journalists' like this spew out into the world completely ignoring a complex dance that greatly impacts reality: Currency advantage, heavy handed government policy on domestic markets, access to natural resources and yes, national security - the last one only briefly mentioned in this clip and not by the 'journalist'. I encourage folks who read/follow car and/or business writers as well as influencers to better understand why something is cheaper and like any reporting on current events, be mindful of the source.

I'll admit it: The current gen BMW 7 ain't pretty but it is a lovely thing to drive, experience and dynamically, the i7 runs circles around any Mercedes EV. Today, BMW is showing an update. Going to reserve final judgement until we drive it but remember when I said all of you who think the grille on the G82 M4 will grow on you and I WAS RIGHT? Something tells me the same won't be the case here. What say you?

So this happened today: 2027 Mercedes C Class. The first model shown is EV. They promise an ICE variant of the same car within the year. The good: The grille. Modern day interpretation with W108/W109 vibes. The bad: Too much screen and the arse end. Going to reserve final judgement until I see it in person but the move here would be to keep the same shape (even though I feel the daylight opening is a miss) and change the details enough to make this design look more 'Western' and traditional because let's face it: That's what is going to sell in volume in the west. What say you?

This is a win. Why? No matter the price point or propulsion system, people buy cars on design. Love it or hate it, the new @Nissan brings that in spades. This is why established OEMs can do with the right design team: Push limits that can last the entire 4 - 5 year product cycle while simultaneously avoiding the trap of trying to look different for the sake of looking different. Who else is doing this well?
98
Unpopular opinion: This is the way forward for legacy small and mid level OEMs. Why? Let someone else pay the R&D while you bring the marketing, proven sales channel and most importantly, the brand to the table. The catch: You have to bring authenticity to product you are badging as your own. Again, why? No matter what you think of EVs, there is a market. This is a strategy that can bridge the gap while prudently managing cash flow and development. What say you?

Yes, low miles but there is a bigger story here: @Ferrari & @Lamborghini are missing a huge opportunity. Limited runs of analog cars with three pedals. @Bringatrailer is proving a point but is anyone is a position of power listening? Bigger question: Does this only work at the GT3 level or can this work on more attainable levels?

Unpopular opinion: There should be more of this. And not just from @Nissan - We are fighting an epidemic. Of what? Nondescript SUVs & CUVs. It's this kind of thing that *may* have some practicality that can sway just enough folks to write a check and make a business case in the process bring back soul, imagination & youth to cars. Change my mind.

The Porsche 992.2 GT3 S/C. I love it. I hate it. I want it. I don't want it. The purist 992.1 GT3 owner in me says it would be heresy. The car nerd in me with a long history of open top cars says 'absolutely'. Make your case for why or why not.
