Yesterday afternoon was a very special day, as we were able to celebrate and honor our volunteers who have helped with the food distribution over nearly the past year. This has been an enormous lift, and week in and week out it goes off without a hitch. I’m so proud of our people and that we’ve been able to take a global issue and apply a smart, sensible, and fiscally responsible solution to such a big problem. Being able to rise to this challenge as a community and meet the needs of our neighbors has been nothing short of amazing. To everyone who has participated in one way or another, thank you. None of this happens without the volunteer effort you all put in every week. Thank you! I’d like to thank the Lions for cooking and serving food yesterday. The Lions have been so good to our community, and this is yet another example of them showing up and supporting us in the work we do. Thank you! I’d like to recognize Commissioner Commissioner Tara Jebens-Singh for attending yesterday and for volunteering as well. I’d like to thank 40A candidate Aisha Elmquist for coming and for volunteering as well, which further reinforces the magnitude of this endeavor—that our next two layers of local leaders not only see value in it but also roll up their sleeves and help. Thank you! A special thanks to Julie Clark. She has been the silent backbone of this whole thing, with all the team organizing and the endless volunteer hours not only from her but from her family. Here are a few pics from the Day of International Peace celebration that I attended on Sunday in Minneapolis. The mayors who attended signed the resolution I attached in a pic, which is essentially a commitment to elevating policies at the local level that promote non-violence. We already do this with many things, like our position on racial covenants and food distribution. It was a fun event, and I would encourage folks to participate next year.

Shout out to Turbo Tim's Anything Automotive for a awesome event today and for bringing so many new people into Mounds View for the day. Thank you! I'm glad we are a city that supports our business and we can still have a little fun while doing it. I'm looking forward to next year!

A big weekend of events starts tonight with the 9/11 memorial and Tribute Park brick dedication for our first responders, beginning at 6 p.m. at City Hall Park. That will be followed by the PD vs. FD softball game at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Park ball field. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the Community Resource Fair at the community center. Sunday from 8:30–9:30 a.m. at Caribou, CD4 candidate Paul Wikstrom and SD40 Senate candidate Rachel Japuntich will join us for coffee to take your questions. Twenty-five years later, we will never forget. We will always honor the 2,996 people who perished, of whom 412 were first responders. The loss of life and the impact this event had on our country and the world will be felt forever. I’m so proud and grateful for our team honoring all of those impacted and being out there not only today, but every year. I’m also grateful for our first responders and the work they do keeping us safe and saving lives. I ask that we say an extra prayer and send a little extra goodwill today for all the survivors and those impacted.

Today we celebrate the people whose work keeps Mounds View running. Labor is the silent often under recognized backbone of our city. I’m grateful for our Police Department, Public Works crew, Parks and Recreation staff, Finance and Administration, and our firefighters with the Spring Lake Park–Blaine–Mounds View Fire Department. They keep our streets safe, our water flowing, our parks open, and our city moving forward every day. To every worker in Mounds View—thank you. Your contributions make life here a little better.
