A high school kid rushing the edge is usually working on RAW tools ā get off, hand placement, bend around the corner. Reps are about building the foundation. Technique is still developing, and the priority is repping the fundamentals until theyāre automatic.
An athlete who played overseas has already logged real snaps against grown men, different rule sets, different blocking schemes. Theyāve seen tempo and physicality most high schoolers havenāt. But that doesnāt mean their technique is clean ā a lot of times it means theyāve gotten away with instinct and athleticism instead of detail.
Hereās the truth: age and experience donāt decide who needs technique work. Everybody needs it. Defensive linemen are skill players too ā hands, angles, leverage, and timing donāt care how many snaps youāve played. They care how precise you are.
Foundation first. Detail always.
