I feel like Bostonians made a deal with the devil for a beautiful weekend. The conversation went like this: Bostonians: We request a beautifully warm January in Massachusetts. Devil: You must offer a great sacrifice. Bostonians: Hmmm. A superbowl ring? Devil: Very well.

An OpenAI agent hacked into an Australian government website while compiling public health data. It wasn't trying to hack anything. It hit a wall, found a way around it, & accessed records the public wasn't supposed to see. I wrote about it. #Substack. pithycyborg.substack.com/p/a…

Good Morning Dockside Dispatch Wednesday, 30 September 2026 Cainhoy Peninsula, South Carolina From the Cainhoy dock. Wednesday light lays a thin gold line on the Wando. Low water passed before dawn. The flood is making toward the late-morning high. Pluff mud still holds the night cool along the bank. A great blue heron works the grass edge. An osprey holds above the spartina. Salt and pine ride the air. The watcher holds. Quick Pulse SPX 7670.8 VIX 16.04 Brent 96.5 DXY 101.40 Diesel 6.4139 Regular 4.4343 10-year 5.24 Geopol Whisper Day 215 of the U.S.-Iran conflict. The seven-day clock has not started. Qatari mediators carried a United States reply to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Doha on Tuesday. An official briefed on the talks, not Iranian, told Reuters the stick is sequencing, not the list. The circulating paper is described as a seven-day trust-building period toward an enhanced version of the June memorandum of understanding, with concrete steps on Iran’s nuclear programme inside it. Foreign Minister Araghchi is expected to take that reply into Tehran today. President Donald Trump said Tuesday the war would be over very soon, that Iran is failing badly, and that Tehran will not have a nuclear weapon. A podium line is not a start date. United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations issued three new attack products this morning on 29 September incidents. Warning 144-26: a crude oil tanker struck on the port side by an unknown projectile. Warning 145-26: an inbound tanker struck by an unknown projectile. Warning 146-26: an LNG tanker struck by an unknown projectile. All verified. Times still TBC. Those sit on top of Warning 143-26, the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company VLCC Al Funtas file already on last night’s board. Fire out. Crew safe. Vessel underway. Social desks are running three and four hulls. The lock is the warning number. No new U.S. Central Command strike package sits on the open record. The Joint Maritime Information Centre last locked product remains Advisory Update 100, 27 September. Threat level SEVERE. AIS-visible commercial flow remains a small fraction of the pre-crisis book. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control on Tuesday designated ten individuals and entities under Operation Economic Outcast for procuring weapons and components for Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the action targets enablers of the regime’s reconstitution. The U.S. Department of State issued related designations the same day. The U.S. Energy Information Administration weekly petroleum status report prints at 1030 Eastern. Tropics Tropical Storm Nolo remains west of the main Hawaiian Islands, over the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Dangerous conditions continue in that stretch. Not a Wando dock forecast. Not a Gulf energy-port track. In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Hanna is far out between Bermuda and the Azores at 40 mph and is expected to become a remnant low tonight. Fay is a remnant low in the central subtropical Atlantic. Neither is on a Gulf energy-port track. No new named development is expected in the Atlantic, Caribbean, or Gulf over the next seven days. Lowcountry Lesson A reply through Doha is not an open strait. Three new warning numbers are. Grateful for every watcher holding position this morning. DYOR. NFA. Throne steady. Kingdom vigilant. Unbroken. 🔥 King of Cainhoy 🇺🇸🔥 Operation Lowcountry Wildfire Intelligence Cainhoy Peninsula, South Carolina Wando River Fixed Perch The fixed perch holds.

I had a fun week “learning robotics”. I started documenting the process — made a short opening animation with Opus 5.5 (which turned out really well), and recorded myself going through the parts. Hopefully I’ll have a full build video to share once the robot can actually stand upright. Then I got to soldering my MPU6050. It came in two parts: the pin headers and the PCB itself. I needed to solder them together. My cheap soldering kit decided to give up on me after just two attempts. And there was no way I could revive it. Anyway, I’m not gonna let that stop me from getting started. I just ordered an MPU6050 with the pins already soldered (should’ve done that in the first place, didn’t know). It’s on its way now. Once it arrives, I can start testing it with my Arduino and finally write some code (back in my comfort zone!). Knowing what not to learn yet is part of learning too.

Blogging didn't die... It just got rebranded by companies embarrassed to admit they were blogging. The value was always in the content, never the label.

The research distinguishes between active and passive hate because for large brands passive hate is a buffer zone. For small brands it is a departure lounge.

DraftKings built an AI to find its best customers. One analyst found its ideal target looked a lot like a gambling addict. The company has also reportedly stalled a tool to identify people developing gambling problems. I wrote about it on #Substack. pithycyborg.substack.com/p/a…
