Beautiful blog about believing that ALL children have dignity, the right the belong & that sometimes, we must question whether our intention to help is actually helping. Follow @Ms_L_White for thought-provoking blogs!

A pretty sobering message but one we all should heed. Work isn't everything, it's really important but not the most important thing.

Yes. Choral response is NOT a check for understanding. It is a tool to add pace & encourage participation. It’s terrible for holding kids to account. It is also different to ‘I say, you say’. bunsenblue.com/2025/02/08/ch…
This is a big problem with choral response. The kids who don’t know the answer can simply mouth a response and the teacher is none the wiser. I can’t see a use for it unless I knew every kid knew the answer and then we were just practising in order to imbed it.

Rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal! Would much rather students be working hard than copying anything!
I agree with this (though I sometimes do allow it in a specific way)! I think the negative reaction to this stems from not understanding what the alternative pedagogy to note-taking is. I tend to use tonnes of rehearsal (e.g. turn & talk) which is far superior in my experience.

Whenever I talk about mini-whiteboards, I will inevitably be asked "But what about the books? Won't there be less evidence of learning in them?" Here's the answer in the Carousel Teaching course on mini-whiteboards 👇👇 Find out more: carousel-learning.com/teachi…
