Hey, the ultimate quality control rests with voters. All I'm saying is that someone on Schmitt's staff was supposed to be the guy protecting Schmitt from himself.
The fact that Schmitt thought this was clever says a lot about the Senator - and his staff.
The buck has to stop somewhere. If he's doing nothing himself and leaving *everything* to staffers, he shouldn't be a Senator. He's not so important that he can't do a little due diligence.

I know he just says stuff for effect, and yes, he does think his own voters are complete idiots who will buy all this. But I genuinely wonder if he can tell the difference between this and reality. His willingness to talk this way, more and more, is a sign of of a problem.
