K‑9 Pardo has officially retired after nearly eight years on patrol, the longest service of any Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office patrol K-9. Since 2018, Pardo and his handler, Deputy Adam Kraushaar, formed an incredible partnership built on trust. Throughout his career, Pardo responded to 486 calls, assisted in numerous searches and captures, and trained for more than 1,500 hours. He was a fan favorite at public events and a steadfast partner in every challenge. Captain Jennifer Ciobanasiu and Chief Deputy Lance Hemsworth honored Pardo’s service with a special retirement plaque presented to Deputy Kraushaar, marking a bittersweet farewell to a truly exceptional K‑9. Enjoy your well‑earned retirement, Pardo. You’ve been a very good boy! 🐾 And for those who are wondering, Pardo will now join Kraushaar’s family and continue to receive excellent care and lots of treats.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office will join agencies nationwide in enhanced DUII enforcement from August 19 to September 7. Our goal is simple: to keep our roads safe. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 11,904 people were killed in drunk‑driving crashes in 2024. If you’re going to drink, please assign a sober driver, use rideshare, or public transportation.

At least 1,186 children have died in hot cars in the United States since 1990, according to Kids and Car Safety data. Of these deaths, 14 occurred this year. In over half of hot car deaths, the person responsible for the child unknowingly left them in the vehicle. Please make a habit of checking your back seat before leaving your car. It can save a life.

On July 20, MCSO deputies supported a successful joint stolen vehicle operation (SVO) with @portlandpolice and @multnomahcounty.da. Our deputies made the following notable arrests and recoveries: • Deputies Suboh and Baines made a warrant arrest and recovered a stolen vehicle, taking one suspect into custody. • Deputies Hansen and Fiebich arrested a suspect for felony elude and reckless driving, located a vehicle with bullet damage linked to a shooting, and assisted PPB with a perimeter that led to two additional arrests. • Deputies Hermann and Bohrer conducted a traffic stop resulting in the seizure of a handgun and later assisted PPB with a stolen vehicle recovery. • Sergeant Smith provided support on three elude incidents. Great teamwork and dedication from all involved in keeping our community safe!

Recently, our team hit the track to refresh their Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) skills, reinforcing effective tactics for real-world situations. This maneuver isn’t just about skill behind the wheel—it’s about protecting our community and minimizing risk. A huge thank-you to our nine certified Emergency Vehicle Operation Course instructors for their expertise and dedication to #TeamMCSO.

Earlier this month, Multnomah County commissioners toured both the Multnomah County Detention Center and Inverness Jail. Their visit supports the Sheriff’s Office in our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and maintaining facilities where every person is treated with dignity and respect.

There have been three separate drownings in the past ten days across Multnomah County. Each incident happened in different waterways and conditions, but none of the victims were wearing a life vest. As you head out to swim or recreate, please wear a life vest and ensure your loved ones do as well. Stay safe, Multnomah County.

Today, our Facility Security and Court Services Units keep the Central Courthouse running smoothly — from onsite security to facilitating court appearances and emergency response. While the current courthouse opened in 2020 along the waterfront, its story stretches back over 150 years. Multnomah County’s first courthouse opened in 1866 at SW 4th Avenue. A south wing was added in 1889. The original courthouse was later replaced by a second structure built in phases around the original building in 1914.
