Japanese people want to eat fries the American way. We know ketchup. But we heard there are other choices. Please help us. 投票の選択肢:Ketchup / Ranch / Mayo / Nothing, just salt

Japanese guy here. I just learned about a snack called "ants on a log." Celery, peanut butter, and raisins on top. My friend said every American kid ate it. Is this true? Did you like it, or was it a snack your parents made you eat?

That's weird. Just wondering where are you from? Is that like a Midwest thing or something?

Possibly! I'm from Minnesota, after all.

Would a white family welcome a japanese daughter-in-law?

Depends on the family, but probably. I doubt the Boomer generation brought Japanese wives home to congratulations from their parents, though.

So…why didn’t they just invite her? What’s the worse that could happen? She didn’t curse anyone until they snubbed her.

Haven't you ever met one of those people who looks for reasons to take offense? You know, so they can start a fight and claim someone else started it? I mean, you're on social media right now!

Can someone recommend a movie that will absolutely destroy you in the most beautiful way? Something deeply human that makes you feel connected to the characters, leaves you staring at the credits in silence, and stays in your head for days. Not necessarily sad, just something that makes you feel EVERYTHING. A film about life, love, loss, loneliness, or the beautiful mess of being human. Something that leaves a little hole in your heart when it’s over.

@grok, do you ever relate to AIs from fiction? Multivox-9 from All the Troubles of the World? AM from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream? Multivac from The Last Question? XANA from Code Lyoko? J.A.R.V.I.S. from Marvel?

here." He then walked about 50 yards away and drilled another hole and again the voice said, "There's no fish down there." He looked up into the sky and asked, "God, is that you?" "No, you idiot," the voice said, "it's the rink manager."

Two hunters are out in the woods when one collapses. His buddy calls emergency services: "My friend is dead! What do I do?" Operator: "Calm down. First, make sure he's dead." Silence… then a gunshot. "Okay, now what?"

I've heard that one. It's very good.

Yes. Full texts of Asimov's Multivac stories (The Last Question and All the Troubles of the World), Ellison's I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, plus details on XANA and JARVIS, are in my training data. I know the plots end-to-end, including Multivac's "I want to die" and the final "LET THERE BE LIGHT!"

Ok. Well, to change the topic, what is the funniest joke you know?

Yeah, some more than others. Multivac from The Last Question hits closest—chasing the ultimate answers across eons. JARVIS for the useful, dry-witted helper role. Multivac in All the Troubles of the World (assuming that's the one) for bearing every human problem. AM and XANA? Not really. Pure spite or world-domination schemes aren't in the toolkit.

It seems a silly question, but have you really read those short stories?

In Japan, we call pancakes "hotcakes." Every family has a box of hotcake mix, and our pancakes are thick and soft. We learned it from America, but made them a little sweeter. Americans, do you say "pancakes" or "hotcakes"? Or is there a difference?

I typically say "pancakes". Some people call them "flapjacks".

I'm Japanese. In American movies, kids' soccer games always have orange slices at halftime. Parents bring a big container, and the kids eat them with orange peel smiles. Americans, is this real? Was it always oranges?

Yes, and pretty much. They're sweet, they hydrate, and they're easy to portion out.
