Sink your teeth into geology with a tasty new #NASASTEM activity demonstration. 🧛
This #Halloween, use candy bars to make observations like a @NASA geologist! Practice sketching a sample and taking “fieldnotes” of what you see.
No tricks here, just tasty treats. 👻
Picture this: what might exist below Europa's surface? If you know creative kids, encourage them to submit to our new art challenge. Entries submitted by Sept. 30 may be featured online or during the launch broadcast in October! Get the full picture: go.nasa.gov/ArtChallenge
ALT A promotional image for the 'Europa Kids Art Challenge' featuring a cosmic background filled with deep purples and oranges, resembling a nebula. In the foreground, there is an artistic representation of Jupiter's moon Europa, with a cracked and textured surface. A space probe with solar panels is positioned near the bottom right, suggesting exploration. The text 'Europa Kids Art Challenge' is written in bold, white letters, standing out against the colorful space backdrop. A smaller depiction of Jupiter is partially visible in the top right corner.
ALT A child's drawing showing the interior ocean of Europa populated with a large pink octopus, jellyfish, and a robotic probe in the water. Above the ocean is a cutaway view of Europa's icy crust with erupting geysers. Jupiter and a starry black sky are visible beyond.

Students: Here’s your chance to send YOUR space art to Antarctica! 🐧
ASTHROS, a far-infrared telescope that will study star formation in galaxies, is launching on a balloon from the icy continent this December and your art could go with it!
Deadline is 8/31 - More: go.nasa.gov/artchallenge

Congratulations to the class of 2024! 🎉🎓
You've accomplished so much and now it's time for your next chapter. As a graduation gift, recent astronaut graduates share their advice and encouragement for all of you taking off on your next big adventures.
For these students, an internship at @NASAJPL meant the chance to help develop a trio of small rovers for the Moon.
The rovers, part of @NASA's upcoming technology demonstration called CADRE, are designed to work as a team to explore the Moon's surface autonomously. Their success could pave the way for future multi-robot missions.

Educators, looking for new ways to explore black holes with your students? Check out these resources and activities from our friends at @NASAJPL_Edu: go.nasa.gov/3UQHjRS#BlackHoleWeek
ALT Animated image showing a gelatin gravitational wave model in action. The scene is dominated by a glass baking dish filled with yellow gelatin. A black marble sits on the gelatin in the lower right corner of the pan, about a quarter of it under the surface of the gelatin. The animation proceeds in slow motion. A silver marble is dropped onto the black marble causing ripples in the gelatin to expand away from the marbles. There is a watermark, “Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech.”
Thank you Mr. Scott for setting up advanced biology classes for me once I had taken all that were offered.
Thank you Dr. Delores Graff for your infectious energy and enthusiasm for science that helped my confidence grow.
Thank you Dr. Kathleen Matthews for teaching me scientific methods and demonstrating a phenomenal work ethic!
And to all of the educators out there - thank you for inspiring the next generation!
#TeacherAppreciationWeek
Teachers, it’s because of you that we dare mighty things @NASAJPL, doing the impossible to explore Earth, our solar system, and the universe beyond.
In honor of #TeacherAppreciationWeek, we want to share our thanks for helping us reach for the stars.

Educators: #EarthDay may be over, but we’re never done talking about our favorite planet!
In this Teachable Moment, students can learn how the #NISAR mission will provide new insights into everything from natural disasters to climate change. go.nasa.gov/3xMThTI
ALT An artist's rendering shows the NISAR satellite in Earth orbit. The long, gold-covered body is toward the bottom of the frame and it has its solar arrays extended out from each side. A long boom stretches out and shows the deployed circular reflector high above the spacecraft.

@NASA climate scientists travel far and wide to study water in all its forms.
Celebrate #EarthDay by sharing a #GlobalSelfie with us – and bonus points if it’s near water!
ALT A woman kneels down in the snow, wearing snowshoes and a bright orange jacket. She is looking down at a scientific instrument in her hands.
ALT A man wearing a black leather jacket and brown shirt takes a selfie in front of a light blue glacier. Between the man and the glacier is a small area of patchy grass. A second person in the background is walking toward the glacier.
ALT A woman sits on a wooden boat with her legs stretched out toward the camera. She is smiling and wearing a bright orange life vest. In the background is a light blue body of water. A blanket of white clouds cover most of the blue sky.
ALT A woman sits on a tan-gray rock to the right of the image. She is wearing a deep purple colored shirt and black pants. One of her legs is tucked up while the other hangs off the side of the rock, and her arms are gently crossed. The woman is at a higher elevation than the background, so the landscape behind her can be seen a far distance. The landscape to the left of the image is a nearly flat ground in dark green, brown, and orange colors, and centered in the image is a lake which is reflecting the color of the sky off of it. Above the horizon, the sky is a bright blue color, but is covered slightly by sparse gray clouds.
Happy #EarthDay! If you could see your hometown from space, what would you want to know?
@NASAEarth scientists are always learning about our ever-changing planet and – spoiler alert – you can too!
Check out glaciers, sea level, methane emissions, and more!🧵⬇️

We're going live from the @EuropaClipper clean room next week to show you the spacecraft before it leaves JPL and heads to @NASAKennedy to prep for launch this October.
What would you like to see inside the clean room, or what should discuss?
ALT An image from inside the Europa Clipper clean room at NASA's JPL. The room has very tall ceilings and everything is white from the floor to the ceiling. About 10 engineers and scientists, dressed in head-to-toe white protective gear, are gathered around the Europa Clipper spacecraft in the center of the room working on the spacecraft and helping to maneuver it across the floor to a new location. Above them is a glass encased gallery area where a crowd of people are watching them work.
The answers to the 2024 #NASAPiDayChallenge are here! go.nasa.gov/piday
Let us know how you did in the comments. Missed this year's challenge? It's never too late to start exploring with pi. Find the complete collection of pi math problems at the link above.
#PiDay
ALT In this cartoonish illustration, the DART spacecraft at the top of the image approaches one large and one small meteor in the upper right. On the bottom of the image, a small robotic rover is on a blue-grey lunar surface. On the left, the Psyche spacecraft shines a laser toward Earth. An inset on the left shows a cat resting on a couch while looking at a laser dot on the couch. On the lower right, the NISAR spacecraft orbits above Earth. The Greek letter π appears in the center of the image next to the words NASA Pi Day Challenge. An arrow curves upward from the end of the text and points to the word answers. There are lines indicating hints about how to solve the problems in the challenge.
Can you guess how many decimals of pi @NASA needs to explore space? It's not all 100 trillion that have been calculated to date.
Hear from a @NASAJPL engineer about how precise we can get with far fewer digits. go.nasa.gov/2IbXDFy#PiDay
One way we use pi @NASA is to map the surfaces of unfamiliar (and familiar) worlds. For example, we can use pi to calculate how many orbits the NISAR spacecraft will need to map Earth.
Explore more ways we use pi at NASA here! go.nasa.gov/2pd5udA#PiDay
ALT In this animation, still Earth is shown from space with lines marking where the NISAR spacecraft has mapped the surface. A gradient color bar in the lower left indicates biomass quantities shown in the NISAR measurements. A counter in the upper right displays Day: 01 and Orbit: 012.
