𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐄 𝐎𝐍 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 The Parliament of Kenya, in partnership with the Canadian High Commission in Kenya and the Inclusive Legislatures for Gender Responsive Policies (ILGRP) Project, will host a two-day Regional Forum to advance gender-responsive lawmaking and budgeting, promote equitable governance and strengthen accountability. The forum, scheduled for 23rd–24th September 2026, will bring together Members of Parliament, international delegates, senior administrators, Human Resource Directors, and Civil Society representatives from Kenya, Ghana and Togo. The project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) and the Parliamentary Centre (PC), is the last regional forum of the ILGRP Project, marking the conclusion of the four-year initiative. It will be held under the theme, “Sharing Achievements and Advancing Forward-Looking Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Parliaments,” and is expected to enhance legislative oversight, citizen engagement, development and refinement of policies, tools and manuals. The Regional Dialogue will provide a platform for a multi-country knowledge exchange highlighting actionable insights, proven methodologies and lessons learnt by the aforementioned legislatures. Participants are set to engage in interactive roundtables, share perspectives on strategic alignment, examine good practices, common challenges and critical success factors that can be implemented in different Parliamentary contexts and inform future initiatives. The dialogue will also have question and answer sessions as well as networking sessions geared to facilitate engagement between donors and parliamentary representatives in rotating interactive World Café discussions on strategic alignment, donor coordination, Parliamentary autonomy and long-term sustainability. On the 2nd day, the meeting will focus on how the participating Parliaments are using innovative tools, digitalisation, institutional reforms and evidence-based frameworks to amplify citizen voices and strengthen the relationship between Parliaments and the public. The regional forum is expected to institutionalize best practices that promote greater inclusion, gender responsiveness, citizen participation and accountability in parliamentary governance.

Kenya’s forests and land are vital to our livelihoods, climate resilience and future prosperity. Protecting these resources requires strong partnerships between Government, communities and all stakeholders. I attended a session with the Departmental Committee on Lands, chaired by Hon. Joash Nyamoko, MP for North Mogirango, to engage on matters concerning land management, environmental conservation and the sustainable use of our natural resources. The engagement provided an important opportunity to reaffirm the Government’s commitment to responsible land governance, protection of public forests and meaningful community participation in conservation and forest management. We reaffirmed that Kenya’s forests are vital ecosystems that support livelihoods, water security, biodiversity and climate resilience. Communities remain important partners and custodians in protecting and sustainably managing our natural resources. The Ministry continues to strengthen community participation through established mechanisms, including Community Forest associations, creating opportunities for sustainable activities such as ecotourism, beekeeping, forest-based enterprises, grazing and other approved forest user rights. The discussions further underscored the importance of ensuring that land-use decisions are guided by the Constitution, environmental laws and the Forest Conservation and Management Act, while safeguarding critical ecosystems for present and future generations. I was accompanied by PS, State Department for Forestry,Eng. Festus K. Ngeno, Director General Mamo B. Mamo, Secretary Forest Development Geoge Tarus ,Dr. Clement Ng’oriareng, Principal Senior Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests and Mr. Evans Kegode, Manager, FIS. The three-day programme is being held from 1st to 3rd September 2026. Speaking during the opening session 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐂𝐏𝐒𝐓, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐡, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 (𝐃-𝐀𝐅𝐂), 𝐂𝐏𝐒𝐓, welcomed the Members of Parliament and appreciated their participation in the programme. He also acknowledged the facilitators for availing themselves to share their expertise and support the capacity-building initiative. He noted that the programme was initiated by the National Assembly and expressed appreciation to the Clerk of the National Assembly for supporting the initiative. He observed that the training comes at a time when technology is increasingly influencing politics, governance, economic development and public service delivery, with Artificial Intelligence emerging as a significant transformative force across these sectors. Dr. Wakah emphasised that the programme provides an opportunity to strengthen Members' capacity to effectively discharge their constitutional mandates of representation, legislation and oversight. He encouraged participants to explore practical ways in which AI can support their parliamentary work, including analysing Bills, generating insights and understanding public perspectives and sentiments on proposed legislation. He further highlighted the potential of AI to support Members in strengthening their digital presence, promoting inclusivity and digital confidence, enhancing professionalism, and increasing awareness of cybersecurity risks and the responsible use of digital technologies, particularly within an increasingly digital political and governance environment. The training is also equipping Members with practical skills in effective prompting and the responsible use of AI tools, enabling them to obtain relevant, accurate and useful outputs to support their legislative and governance responsibilities. CPST continues to provide innovative and demand-driven capacity-building programmes that strengthen the effectiveness, professionalism and responsiveness of parliamentary institutions.
