From #Brexit with love: ‘an information war is under way in #BrexitBritain (quite as much as in the EU) and it is conducted from both the US and Russia. But it is not simply an external attack: it is crucially reliant upon being amplified from within.’ bsky.app/profile/chrisgrey.b…

France has now dropped its opposition to #BrexitBritain being included in the EU’s “Made in Europe” industrial policy, provided the UK aligns with Europe on trade defence, including Chinese EV tariffs.
✅ France has now dropped its opposition to Britain being included in the EU’s “Made in Europe” industrial policy, provided the UK aligns with Europe on trade defence, including Chinese EV tariffs. This is the real post-Brexit world: the closer Britain aligns with Europe, the more access and protection British industry gets. Geography, supply chains and shared economic interests are reasserting themselves. Brexit tried to pretend Britain could detach itself from the European economic system. Reality keeps pulling us back towards it.

Bernd Lange, @berndlange chair of the European Parliament’s trade committee and a veteran of the #Brexit negotiations, says #BrexitBritain could move quickly into a *Switzerland plus* relationship with the EU.
🤩 The Brexit debate is moving very fast now. Bernd Lange, @berndlange chair of the European Parliament’s trade committee and a veteran of the Brexit negotiations, says Britain could move quickly into a *Switzerland plus* relationship with the EU. In other words, the choice is not simply: Hard Brexit forever or wait years for full re-entry. There are routes back towards deep economic integration much faster than that. And once again, the message from Europe is not stay away. It is: if Britain wants to come closer, the door is open.

Little #BrexitBritain: ‘We were given the worst of both worlds: an advisory #Brexit vote whose result couldn’t be overturned because of electoral irregularities, but which the Tories presented as binding.’

'The #Brexit we voted for wasn’t delivered' rather proves the problem. Which Brexit? There was never one agreed model on the ballot, just “Leave”, onto which millions projected very different expectations.
🚨 The Brexit we voted for wasn’t delivered” rather proves the problem. Which Brexit? There was never one agreed model on the ballot, just “Leave”, onto which millions projected very different expectations. Ten years later, every failure can be explained away by saying the real Brexit was never tried. Meanwhile the EU hasn’t “crumbled”. Britain is still trying to renegotiate access to the market and political system we were told we no longer needed. At some point Brexit has to be judged by the Brexit that actually exists, not the imaginary one that can never fail.

Goldman Sachs estimates that EU membership could boost #BrexitBritain's economy by 6% over the long term. Better access to our largest trading partner would give British businesses more opportunities to grow. bsky.app/profile/europeanmov…

🚨 Goldman Sachs has put numbers on #Brexit choices. Current Brexit deal: +0.3% GDP Customs union: +1% Single Market: up to +5% Full EU membership: up to +6% And Goldman estimates #BrexitBritain's economy is already around 6% smaller.
🚨 Goldman Sachs has put numbers on Brexit choices. Current Brexit deal: +0.3% GDP Customs union: +1% Single Market: up to +5% Full EU membership: up to +6% And Goldman estimates the UK economy is already around 6% smaller than its counterfactual path since the 2016 referendum. Non wonder the debate is changing. The further Britain moves back towards Europe, the larger the potential economic dividend. Brexit was sold as a growth strategy, but now 10 years later, the growth strategy is undoing Brexit asap.

The naïveté of so many in rejoin in setting optouts on the table as part of accession is here for all to see. #BrexitBritain’s shadow cabinet minister was able to turn a conversation about Europe into one about "terms" bsky.app/profile/niallocongh…

‼️ Boston voted more than 75% Leave, the highest #Brexit vote in #BrexitBritain. Ten years later, residents tell the i that jobs are still scarce, public services still struggle, immigration has not disappeared and life has not noticeably improved.
‼️ Boston voted more than 75% Leave 🔥 the highest Leave vote in Britain. Ten years later, residents tell the i that jobs are still scarce, public services still struggle, immigration has not disappeared and life has not noticeably improved. One Leave voter says: “It’s made no difference, has it?” Another admits: “We’re a poorer country than we would have been if we’d stayed in.” That tells us something important. People in places like Boston weren’t wrong to be angry. They had been living with decades of economic decline, low wages and disappearing industry. But the EU wasn’t the cause of those failures and Brexit didn’t cure them. The real task now is bigger than simply rejoining Europe. We need to rebuild Britain at home while rebuilding our relationship with Europe abroad. That is how you finally address the grievances that produced Brexit in the first place.
