New Hampshire Is Under Siege! From an energy perspective and prices, New Hampshire finds itself in an unfortunate situation of energy blockade. We could easily alleviate our energy prices by tapping into the vast natural gas reserves of Pennsylvania. But that would require an additional pipeline, and here is where the blockade comes in. From politicians playing the songs of radical climate alarmism to woke judges that kill even approved projects, there is just no way to put a new pipeline through New York and Massachusetts. Second, we could bring some of the energy resources by sea, for example from Texas to Boston and then to NH. But here comes the antiquated protectionist monstrosity of the Jones Act that puts so many requirements that it makes this route nearly impossible. The US just does not produce the type of LNG vessel we would need here, and it was made illegal to use a foreign one. (It might take up to a year to establish a production and start using this new route, so Trump suspending the Jones Act for a few months over the Iran war-caused shortages was too short to help us.) Finally, our neighbors have been very aggressive against useful progress. Our neighboring states have killed stable and carbon-neutral nuclear plants and many other stable electrical plants. And the renewables are not producing anything most of the time: the wind does not always blow at the needed speed, and (surprise!) the sun does not shine at night even if you need an air conditioner or to charge an electric car. New Hampshire somewhat saves the situation by sending our nuclear energy from Seabrook to Massachusetts and elsewhere. But we are stuck with the regional network (ISO New England) and the high energy prices. Historically, and partially through our relatively small size, our energy grid is interconnected with the neighboring states, and a recent state study found there is no easy, cheap way to leave it. One way to make energy cheaper is to build a legal framework for microgrids. We can build local energy producers that would not be connected to the established network, and it will give us flexibility to choose cheaper prices, starting very locally. (One option is small nuclear reactors. The technology has been here for decades, from nuclear-powered vessels to the research 6MW reactor in a busy area of Cambridge coexisting quietly and safely.) But voters can choose the opposite and vote for higher energy prices. My opponents on the Democratic side are eager to destroy any advantage that New Hampshire built over the years. Even Democratic states like Rhode Island and Massachusetts are finally acknowledging that some net-zero and clean-heat mandates have to be delayed. But that is not true for New Hampshire Democrats, as their leader Cinde Warmington, gubernatorial candidate, wants net zero for NH by 2040, more aggressive than even MA/NY’s 2050 targets. What crushing price taxpayers and homeowners will have to pay to fully electrify their car fleet and old houses, that is intentionally omitted. No more oil heating, no more gas heating, no more propane generation, no more gas cars, no more diesel cars. You will pay for it, and it will not be cheap.

They are intended to be descriptions of how you intend to get actual results. Since libertarians have never had a shred of political power since Lincoln ruined America, they have had plenty of time to practice orating about their ideas, and no opportunity at all to test them against empirical reality. And debates don't matter. Results matter. And this is why modern libertarians lose. Because if you reject the very idea of collective action and collective interest as evil, regardless of its effect, then you cannot wield power. And you are nothing but that annoying girlfriend who gets your man into a fight, then grabs his arms from behind while the other guy stabs him. Today, we have all sorts of characters running around claiming they are the direct ideological descendants of founding fathers who would have purged them with a flamethrower. Of course, if you read them anything those founders wrote that wasn't the Declaration of Independence, or Constitution, both carefully scraped clean of historical context, and they will immediately denounce those founding fathers, with the same mouth, as "fascists". And any time you point out the effects they are having, right now, on actual events in the world, they retreat into abstractions about the Rights of Man, or the Rule of Law, or their all-time favorite, Equality. So, no, I am not going to waste time in a sideshow tent, debating these freaks about how many Inalienable Human Rights can dance on the head of an 80-iq Haitian cannibal. I am going to point out their irrelevance and mock them so no one takes them seriously. And yes, I call myself a libertarian. But I will leave this idea for the rest of you, the ones who understand already that philosophies are our servants, not our liege lords: Liberty is a goal, not a method.
