The greatest impacts are expected Saturday, especially from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Coastal flooding is also expected Saturday and Sunday mornings, particularly in the Rockaways and around Jamaica Bay.

.@nycemergencymgt reminds NYers that as of 9/13, all NYC public beaches are closed to swimming & lifeguards are not on duty. Coastal flooding has been forecast for the weekend, 9/25-9/27. These conditions may result in rip currents, localized beach erosion and wash-overs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. More info: weather.gov/okx

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Coastal and basement residents, a nor'easter brings strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding to NYC from Friday through Sunday, and the storm has moved closer since this morning. The highest-risk periods are the Friday evening and Saturday morning high tides. Preparing now keeps you and your neighbors safe: know your way out, move your car away from streets that flood, and stay out of floodwater. New Yorkers, here’s what you need to know about this week’s nor’easter: The storm is expected to pass offshore, keeping the heaviest rain east of New York City. But we should still prepare for gusty winds, rain, and some high-tide flooding beginning today, peaking Friday, and potentially continuing through Sunday. If you live near the coast, move your car to higher ground or away from streets that regularly flood. Secure loose outdoor items, including furniture and garbage containers, that could be picked up by strong winds. Storm tracks can change, so please stay informed and be prepared. Nor'easter update for NYC: coastal flooding could reach minor to locally moderate levels during high tides Thursday evening through Saturday, largely around Jamaica Bay. Tonight's high tide could also bring minor flooding there. 🗺️ The storm is still tracking north well offshore, and the heaviest rain is forecast to stay east of NYC over southeastern New England. For the city, that means gusty winds, weekend rain, and high-tide flooding near the shore. 💨 Gusts will build through the week: 25 to 35 mph today and Thursday, 30 to 45 mph Friday, and 30 to 40 mph Saturday. Secure loose items on balconies, rooftops, and patios, and keep your phone charged. 🌧️ Today and Thursday stay dry. Rain could start as early as late Friday evening, with a 45% to 60% chance of light to briefly moderate rain through the weekend. Totals of 0.5 to 1.25 inches are possible over two to two and a half days. 🚗 Expect some ponding on roads: slow down, allow extra time, and never drive through standing water. 🚫 If you live or travel near the water, do not drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters, including flooded roads, underpasses, and low-lying areas. Hearing a lot about this week's nor'easter? Here's what it means for NYC: The biggest concern is minor coastal flooding during high tides from as early as Wednesday evening through Saturday, mainly around Jamaica Bay. This weekend's astronomical high tide adds to the risk. Winds pick up as the storm passes offshore. Expect northeast gusts of 25 to 35 mph Wednesday and Thursday, and north gusts of 30 to 45 mph Friday. We need everyone to secure loose items on balconies, rooftops, and patios. Rain chances return Friday evening and rise over the weekend. The storm's track is still uncertain, so the city could see anywhere from light to moderate rain. Rainfall flooding is not expected at this time. If you live or travel near the water in southern Queens, Brooklyn, or Staten Island, do not drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters, including flooded roads, underpasses, and low-lying areas. Turn Around, Don't Drown. Rip current risk is high today through Saturday. Heading out Friday night or this weekend? Pack a rain jacket.
