Indianapolis
From 2018 to to 2025 the Colts allowed the 12th-most sacks in the NFL. This isn’t Nelson’s fault, but neither did he “anchor a pretty good line”.

He’s not denying how good Nelson was. He’s denying how much it matters that nelson was good

I mean…I can’t argue. There were Three Ages of Irsay. Only one was good.

It was a shit show before Peyton got here and it became a shit show the minute Peyton left.

A lot of people memory-holed Pagano’s last year here. Irsay questioned Luck’s desire. Ballard telling coaching candidates “don’t come for Luck”. The acrimonious rehab. The secret trip to Europe? Pagano’s weird “nobody tells me nuthin’” schtick.

There was no turning back the moment they blew the AR pick. This was always how blowing that pick was going to end. This was inevitable.
NEW: This was the most consequential day for the Colts’ franchise since Andrew Luck’s retirement. There’s no turning back now. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/5030…

If building around a guard and a running back was a good idea, the Colts would have been amazing. You can’t pick a better guard or RB than Nelson and Taylor. So…maybe, just maybe, that was a suboptimal strategy and not the best use of resources (picks and money and focus).

Buckner was a great great player. He deserved better than the Ballard era. Probably the single best move of Ballard’s tenure.

A lot of Colts fans starting to realize just how massive an overpay the Gardner trade was

A lot of you all are taking kickers first in your fantasy draft.

You guys, Chris Ballard was a bad GM. He found some great players, but he didn’t know how to construct a winning roster. I love those players too. That doesn’t mean I think he built the team in a way that made sense or translated to winning. That’s self evident at this point,

The Ballard era was a disaster. Some of you need to start asking “why?”

Seems like the league values IOL a bit more realistically than the Colts fanbase.
Indianapolis' return of a 3rd and a 5th for Quenton Nelson is the most pure draft capital for a guard since at least 2011, per Spotrac. only 4 have netted a 4th: 2013: G. Carimi, 4th 2014: L. Mankins, 4th + player 2021: B. Bredeson + 5th + 7th, 4th 2025: J. Thuney, 4th

Receipts.
I’m advocating that if your QB isn’t throwing by draft day, and hasn’t played in more than a year, that maybe you should not assume he will be fine or ever be the same player again. Really shouldn’t be controversial.

Probably a QB. Insurance/trade

Guards don’t do that. Scheme and getting rid of the ball does. Line is massively overrated by media and fans QBs bear the responsibility for sacks more than linemen, esp guards.
Or maybe just help keeping your franchise-transforming talent in one piece. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Now you see it. Guards play perfect games all the time, on a weekly basis. No one can tell. Because it doesn’t matter that much in comparison.

It's almost like, too, if this is a declaration that Luck will be protected, you almost have to finish the job and find new RG/RT. I mean, if Luck returns, gets hit from that side and hurt again ... what was the point of 6 overall investment at guard?

I love Andrew Luck. Most fun player I’ve seen. Enjoy him more than anyone. But the boy isn’t throwing, so yeah. I’m skeptical.

Since 2011, the colts have drafted OL with the following round picks: 1, 2, 3, 4, 2, 1, 3, 4, and 1. Please for the love of Christmas stop telling me they need to “finally invest in the oline” to “protect Luck”. Moronic.

This franchise is devoid of talent on both sides of the ball BECAUSE they have over-invested in the line to protect a QB who doesn’t protect himself. But sure! I bet another guard will fix it this time. Why not?
