You may remember three weeks ago that @DOTMARAD announced the activation of the Training Ship Empire State VII from @MaritimeCollege for service with the @USNavy in the Indian Ocean, probably at Diego Garcia. This letter from SUNY Maritime College President cites that the ship is sailing to Norfolk to get its flight deck certified by @NAVAIRNews, with the ship sailing on Sept 30. It is expected that the ship will sail Oct 1. President Okon notes that the ship needs to return by Feb 12 to prepare for the Summer Sea Term. This is not going to happen! It will take about a month to sail from Norfolk to Diego Garcia. That will only out the ship on station for 6 weeks. It appears that NY Maritime cadets will have to sail with Maine or Texas Maritime for the summer of 2027. There is still no clear mission stated for Empire State.
