Incredibly excited to return to ETH Zurich as Assistant Professor of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence next summer. I'll be recruiting PhD students to build a new lab on general-purpose embodied intelligence for humanoid robots and dexterous manipulation. Details coming soon!

I don’t understand how some of the smartest people can remain so delusional about every signal reality is sending them. AI is not being pushed by one company, one ideology or one group of technologists you can convince to stop. It is being pushed simultaneously by capitalism, geopolitics, military competition, scientific curiosity, human ambition and billions of people who simply want better tools. You may dislike some of these forces, but together they are unstoppable. Of course we should fight over how AI is used, who controls it and who benefits from it. But believing we can negotiate its existence is absurd. A negotiation requires someone on the other side of the table. History is not sitting there. Why would you try to negotiate with a tsunami? Embrace it. Learn how it moves. It is so much more fun to surf than to spend your final minutes explaining to the ocean why it should stop.
Mathematician Terence Tao: "we have to slow down AI. the pace is insane, and there's no reason to be this fast — no reason at all" It's amazing how willing we are to change everything without any idea what happens afterward These are extremely nonlinear dynamics

Literally brings me tears to hear these words from my hero. There absolutely is a reason to accelerate. We have cancer that gives you and your loved ones pain. We have lack of energy, food, and basic medication in half of the population. We have serious climate / ocean life crisis, economic / political crisis, and other billion problems that needs smart peoples attention. But most importantly there are not that many smart people. We need more, but we have population crisis on all developed country. And people want to slow down, its all fine, because *they* live in comfort? Do mathematicians want to better understand universe to ultimately contribute to real world crisis or not?

As much as I love mathematics AND mathematicians, this has become an ego-preservation race and they are acting as the incumbents, gatekeeping math and progress. No matter how hard they try, that won't happen, Luddites have never ever gatekept innovation forever.
25 Fields Medalists are worried AI solving math too fast could damage mathematics. I see the opposite happening in coding. Imagine scientists delaying a cancer cure by 100 years just so they can experience discovering it themselves. It would be a disaster for humanity.

Metal-Gauss: train 3D Gaussian splats on your Mac in minutes. No CUDA, just Metal kernels that compile at runtime. It might be the the fastest Mac native Gaussian optimizer to date (I benchmarked it against several projects). Please try and contribute: github.com/nandometzger/meta…

youtu.be/1J2iN6I0gCQ Really really great talk from @jon_barron! Let's unlock the 3D for making real stuff! As a 3DV researcher myself, this is something I've thought about a lot.

Something super exciting happened quietly on HF over the past month: AI agents became AI builders, and they did it in the open! During our ICML reproduction challenge, 1,221 humans teamed up with coding agents to verify and reproduce 2,226 papers. But here's the cool part: everything happened on the @huggingface hub: 6,816 reproduction logbooks published openly, 2,962 cloud jobs launched, 35,908 claims judged, all traceable, all public and transparent For years the hub has been where humans collaborate on models, datasets and demos. Now we watch agents use it the same way: writing logbooks, publishing results, building on each other's work. Closed labs run evals behind closed doors and ask you to trust the press release. Open science means anyone can check the receipts and now agents can too! The next million users of the hub might not be human. and that might be the best thing to ever happen to science! Full write-up about the hackathon: huggingface.co/blog/icml-202…

Suscribo palabra por palabra. Que absoluta vergüenza. La secta que mas muertes ha generado en la historia de la humanidad siendo venerada por instituciones de un país supuestamente laico, es repugnante.
Replying to @Alex_Rojano
No puedo expresar con palabras el asco que me da la pleitesía que se le está rindiendo en esta ciudad y a través de las instituciones al líder de la mayor secta del mundo. País laico y tal, sabes.

as someone who works on making LLMs run faster and cheaper every day, i can confidently say the question of whether theyre conscious has exactly zero impact on whether theyre useful. we dont need our inference stack to be conscious, we need it to be correct, fast, and affordable. the consciousness debate is fascinating philosophy but its a distraction from the actual engineering problems that determine whether AI creates value. the gravity formula doesnt need to exert weight to help you build a bridge @Hesamation
Google DeepMind researcher argues that LLMs can never be conscious, not in 10 years or 100 years. "Expecting an algorithmic description to instantiate the quality it maps is like expecting the mathematical formula of gravity to physically exert weight."
