"Some aquariums have continuous camera feeds that allow viewers to watch jellyfish go about their lives. This was kind of like that, if the jellyfish wore khakis and analyzed the mail ballot results from Washtenaw County." nytimes.com/2026/09/15/style…

This is a great interview with an independent sports journalist who creates highly-produced narrative videos for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts. These don’t just consist of a guy talking into his phone camera — it’s obvious that he puts a lot of work into researching, illustrating, editing, and scripting these videos. “Right now, my niche is not news,” he said. “By the time the algorithm serves you my stuff, the news has happened. My niche is finding what’s interesting about that news or what’s underreported, and delivering a compelling narrative.” SOURCE: niemanlab.org/2026/09/would-…

"Science communication is thriving, but that’s different than science journalism. What growth there is tends to favor quick takes and attitude, rather than institutionalized journalism with its commitment to verifying information as well as its costly trappings." niemanlab.org/2026/09/is-sci…

"One thing I tell [young creators] is that you don’t have to have an opinion on everything, and you probably shouldn’t. If you’re prioritizing volume instead of quality, you’re going to lose trust over time." niemanlab.org/2026/09/would-…
