And you see it even more clearly when the talk turns to dividing what they leave behind.

People who sat at the same table for years suddenly start measuring rooms, counting money, rewriting history.
Children turn on each other. Grandchildren start calculating.
Love goes quiet.
The estate gets loud.
Years ago my parents were only fifty. I told them: while you’re still alive, and while you still can - if there’s a way to sell the flat or the house and keep the right to live there until the end, do it.
Take the money.
Travel.
Go on trips.
See the world. Enjoy it yourselves.
Don’t leave a battlefield behind.
I’m sick of watching what inheritance does to families. The way some children behave. The way some grandchildren behave.
It’s one of the saddest, ugliest things you’ll ever see.
