🇺🇸🇨🇳 A woman near Los Angeles airport was detained by men believed to be federal immigration agents while a bystander filmed the encounter.
At one point she asked him to call 911. Instead, he repeatedly shouted that the men were ICE.
Even if he had called police, LAPD generally cannot intervene simply to obstruct a lawful federal immigration arrest.
The woman is reportedly a Chinese national without legal immigration status, although ICE has not publicly confirmed the circumstances of this particular detention.
The broader context is shocking: encounters with Chinese nationals crossing the U.S.-Mexico border without authorization rose from roughly 2,200 in FY2022 to about 38,200 in FY2024.
ICE recorded 517 removals of Chinese nationals in FY2024.
