The first men are being recruited to a landmark trial kicking off the biggest prostate cancer screening study in a generation. Co-funded by @ProstateUK and NIHR, the TRANSFORM screening trial is the most ambitious prostate cancer study in decades. Today the first men will begin receiving letters from their GPs, inviting them to join the landmark trial designed to make diagnosis earlier, safer, and more effective. On National Allied Health Professionals Day, we are celebrating the work of speech and language therapists. For example, they can help people with language problems after a stroke (aphasia). An international analysis showed that this therapy is most effective when it is delivered early, frequently, and in high doses. 4️⃣ @uclhresearch - Accelerating development of drugs for mental health conditions
Researchers from the NIHR UCLH BRC are part of several trials to accelerate development of drugs to treat mental health conditions. This work includes investigations into new treatments for psychosis in Alzheimer’s disease - novel muscarinic (M1/M4) agonists, and repurposing of 5HT3 (ondansetron) and 5HT2A (volinanserin) antagonists - and a trial of a novel drug treatment for schizophrenia.
