Who will have the last laugh in Ukraine: Trump and Putin, or Zelensky and Europe?
For years, many dismissed Zelensky as a comedian playing president. Yet Ukraine is rapidly evolving into one of the world's most battle-tested, high-tech military forces, backed by growing European industrial and military support, with continued assistance from parts of the US.
Putin expected a quick victory. Instead, Russia faces mounting costs, deeper isolation, and a war that has exposed weaknesses many thought didn't exist. The longer it drags on, the greater the temptation for Moscow to resort to increasingly desperate measures.
Meanwhile, Trump is discovering that power in today's world is more complicated than simply telling allies what to do. America's influence remains enormous, but it no longer operates in a world where everyone automatically falls into line.
The biggest surprise of this war may be Europe itself. Written off as divided and dependent, it is slowly becoming a far more serious geopolitical and military player.
History has a sense of humour. The "clown" may outlast the strongmen.

Under the SNP, Scotland鈥檚 benefits bill is spiralling out of control, amounting to about 拢19 million per day, which is 拢7 billion a year, and by 2030 expected to rise to nearly 拢10 billion.
These are shocking figures.
At the same time, fraudsters keep exploiting the system.
That is unfair to hardworking taxpayers and to those who genuinely need support.
The @ScotTories have a different plan: a fairer system that supports people who genuinely need help, while getting more people into work.
