Why single out European culture—or any other—for contempt?
They climbed out of the same pit most societies were in: raids, collapse, short lives.
What changed first was not a miracle of virtue. Invasions eased, order held, and people could keep a harvest. That took a working home culture: law, language, memory, and a will to defend them.
Dark Ages: 400–900
Transition: 900–1100 — raids fade, internal order returns, surplus starts to stick
Crusades: 1095–1291 — a recovered Europe projecting power; not what ended the Dark Ages
Renaissance: 1300s–1600s
Then Enlightenment, industry, and the long rise in living standards
Life did not leap in 1100. Stability was the platform the later acceleration stood on. The Crusades did not build that platform; they came after it. What Europe eventually exported was the compounding package: engines, medicine, fertilizer, literacy, institutions.
Crimes were real—slavery, conquest, brutality. Those were not unique to Europeans or any one culture.
In the end, the result of stability and work still raised the floor for billions.
That is worth marking. Stability is the precondition. Treat cohesion as optional and you hand the precondition back.
Every people needs a stable home. That starts with protecting and taking seriously their own culture—not only Europe’s.
We ALL have to fix ourselves to make a better world. If our own cultural home is in order, regardless what culture we are or come from, amazing things can happen.
