The Pope told members of the Amoris Laetitia meeting to “preserve the discretion & confidentiality that this time of listening & discernment requires.”  There are 187 participants & around 250 people in the hall in total, including staff & facilitators
NOW: Pope Leo is opening the Amoris Laetitia 10th anniversary conference Addressing the prelates, he outlines questions to guide discussion in next week: “What are people truly seeking beneath these cultural changes? What do their joys and hopes, griefs and anxieties reveal to us? Where do our pastoral language and practices succeed in opening a path, and where do they fail to touch people’s hearts or assist their efforts to do what is good? What is the lived experience of families teaching us — an experience from which we have not yet fully learned? What can we offer as formation for healthy and holy family life? In particular, what can we learn from parents as they seek to accompany their children and young people in such contexts?” He further adds: “What kind of Church, then, do people encounter precisely when they are most fragile? Do our communities help them discover that they still have a place, a responsibility and gifts to offer? Can the truth we proclaim be encountered through the patience, closeness and mercy of our pastoral presence? How can we announce to them the fullness of the Gospel’s teaching about the family?” Soon on @CatholicHerald

Swiss canon lawyer Rev. Martin Grichting says Amoris Laetitia is "a boomerang that will come back to strike the Church’s Magisterium" if it is not corrected by the magisterium - lifesitenews.com/news/priest… Actually, the Novus Ordo magisterium's goose is cooked either way, for even if it is corrected, the magisterium's credibility is shot, since it would then mean that a 'Catholic magisterial' document can be so erroneous/ heretical/ immoral that it has to be rescinded a few years later.

Surprised that they went with trying to reconcile Familiaris consortio 84 and Amoris laetitia 305 and footnote 351, at the very start of this synodal meeting on the success of Amoris laetitia. I thought the debate was settled. It's going to be an interesting couple of days.

That’s right folks. Amoris is STILL ambiguous even though Francis already clarified it. We just need Leo to help us understand marriage better and then it will all make much more sense sometime in the future, okay?!
My friend @LarryChappGS22 offers a characteristically thoughtful and hopeful reading of this week’s Amoris Laetitia meeting, and I think he may have identified something important about Leo XIV’s emerging method of governance. Larry’s argument is that Leo does not intend to spend the week reheating the bitter controversies surrounding Chapter 8, but to recover the much larger question which Amoris addresses: what has happened to marriage and the family in a culture which increasingly struggles even to understand their meaning? That makes sense to me and I really hope he is right! The crisis of divorced and remarried Catholics receiving Communion is not an isolated phenomenon, it sits downstream from a far deeper anthropological crisis in which permanence, sexual difference, sacrifice, fidelity and even the idea of marriage as a vocation have become increasingly unintelligible. But I would add one important qualification to Larry’s analysis. The ambiguities surrounding Chapter 8 were real, and their consequences were real. They cannot simply be transcended by changing the subject. At some point the Church still requires clarity about how pastoral accompaniment relates to objective moral truth and sacramental discipline. Perhaps Pope Leo’s instinct, however, is that the way to get there is not through another ecclesiastical civil war, but by recovering the foundations first: Christ, Christian anthropology, marriage as an indissoluble sacrament, the family as a domestic church, and the call to conversion which accompanies the Gospel. If that is what Leo is doing, Larry is right that we may be beginning to discern a pattern in this pontificate: not pretending the controversies do not exist, but refusing to allow the controversies to determine the horizon within which the Church thinks. That would be a very different approach indeed. ncregister.com/commentaries/…

Oh, really? Fr. Ludwig Ott, Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma (1954 ed.), on the Perpetual Virginity of the Mother of God: "The Church doctrine refers primarily to Her bodily integrity" (p. 204).
LATEST: Fr Wojciech Giertych, O.P., Theologian of the Papal Household, tells the conference that Mary’s perpetual virginity is not a physiological detail but the spiritual quality of her motherhood. Lumen Gentium, Fr Wojciech notes, teaches that Christ’s birth “did not diminish His mother’s virginal integrity, but sanctified it,” and that in the Church, “rightly called Mother and Virgin,” Mary “stands out in eminent and singular fashion as exemplar both of virgin and mother.” Virginal love, he says, is “moved by a passionate wonder, openness, and esteem.” The Virgin “does not want to impose anything upon the beloved… She wants to be changed by the one whom She loves.” Maternal love is different: the mother “generates, nourishes, defends, and strengthens.” Both must be purified. An idolatrous love of the child “ends in mamismo, the inability of letting the grown-up child go forward independently.” More at @RealAdVaticanum
