I had no idea this was a thing until I got into sports media: There is a small but very loud group of people that legitimately dont understand the goal of athletic competition is to win. They are the ones screaming how great of a fan they are whenever their team takes an L. They want you to know they don't care about the actual results and if you do then you are a bad fan in their eyes. Just a fascinating group of people.
Getting participation trophies for finishing 7th in little league really fried their brains.
