At the invitation of HE Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines of Algeria, OPEC Secretary General HE Haitham Al Ghais is leading a high-level delegation to Algeria on an official two day visit to meet with the Algerian leadership and various Government officials, and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the historic Algiers Accord on 28 September 2026.
The Algiers accord of 28 September 2016, paved the way for the Vienna Agreement and the historic Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) signed by OPEC and participating non-OPEC producers on 10 December 2016.

The OPEC Secretariat welcomed a multidisciplinary delegation of students and PhD candidates from the University of Debrecen, Hungary.
During the session, participants learned about OPEC’s rich history, the structure of the Secretariat, and its deep roots in Vienna — a leading global center for multilateralism.
The visit, which was part of a two-week tour around leading international organizations in Europe, also highlighted ongoing multilateral cooperation led by OPEC, its Member Countries, and participating countries of the OPEC and non-OPEC Declaration of Cooperation,
reflecting on nearly a decade of achievements in securing sustainable market stability.

The primary sources of long-term oil demand growth are India, Other Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Demand in these regions is set to increase by 25.2 mb/d between 2025 and 2050, with India alone adding 8.1 mb/d. Oil demand in Other Asia, the Middle East and Africa is set to increase by 5.3 mb/d, 4.7 mb/d and 4.3 mb/d, respectively. Oil demand in Latin America is projected to increase by 2.8 mb/d and China by 1.1 mb/d over the same period.

An OPEC delegation headed by Dr Ayed Al-Qahtani, Director, Research Division, held a technical meeting today with the Economics and Technology Research Institute (ETRI) at the headquarters of the CNPC ETRI in Beijing, China.
Both sides exchanged views on current market conditions, future outlooks and explored the scope for further cooperation between #OPEC and ETRI.
Dr. Al Qahtani was accompanied by Dr. Abderrezak Benyoucef, Head Energy Studies Department at OPEC.

The 8th High-level Meeting of the OPEC-China Energy Dialogue took place today, in Beijing, China.
The Meeting was co-chaired by HE Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, and HE Wang Hongzhi, Administrator of National Energy Administration (NEA) of the People’s Republic of China.
HE #AlGhais commended the dialogue between #OPEC and China which stretches back more than two decades and said that “Twenty years on, those seeds have grown into an enduring and pragmatic framework for cooperation on energy issues of common interest, particularly security of supply and demand, and market stability”.
The Meeting focused on key issues related to energy security and market outlooks, highlighting the importance of ensuring adequate investments in all energies and recognized the important role of China in global economic growth and energy demand.

Co-chaired the 7th High-Level India-OPEC Energy Dialogue with my dear friend, OPEC Secretary-General H.E. Haitham Al Ghais, in New Delhi today.
Our candid and constructive discussions reaffirmed the strength of the India-OPEC partnership and opened new avenues for cooperation, particularly in light of the ongoing geopolitical disturbances involving major energy producers and disruptions to global supply chains.
Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, India is emerging as a key engine of global energy demand and a vital contributor to energy security, particularly across the Global South.
We also discussed how, despite an energy shock impacting several parts of the world, India successfully navigated the situation and maintained a steady supply of affordable and sustainable fuel for its citizens.
While India has consistently offered a stable and reliable market for hydrocarbons from OPEC countries. I would also like to highlight that India continues to expand its refining capacity. We have recently commissioned an integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex with a capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum, taking India's total refining capacity to approximately 267.1 MMTPA. Plans are already in place to scale this further to 300.5 MMTPA by 2030, enhancing it further in a bid to become a global refining hub.

The 7th High-level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue took place today, 22 September 2026, in New Delhi, India.
The Meeting was co-chaired by HE Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, and HE Hardeep Singh Puri, Honourable Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Republic of India.
HE Al Ghais stated that “Dialogue with India is a priority for OPEC because we recognize India’s importance within the current global energy landscape and the fact that this importance will only increase in the decades ahead.” HE Al Ghais highlighted the importance of India as the largest single contributor to growth in both global energy and oil demand from 2025 to 2050, according to #OPEC’s World Oil Outlook.
The Meeting focused on key issues related to oil and energy markets and provided the opportunity for both parties to discuss the short-, medium- and long-term outlooks for the industry and recognize the important role of India in global economic growth and energy demand.

Future oil demand growth in road transportation comes on the back of a large expansion in the global vehicle fleet, particularly in developing countries. The global vehicle fleet is expected to increase from 1.7 billion in 2025 to nearly three billion in 2050, with the fastest growth expected in the segment of electric vehicles (EVs). Nevertheless, internal combustion engine based vehicles are set to continue to dominate the global fleet. They are expected to account for around 73% of the total in 2050.

Today, the OPEC Secretariat’s Football Team participated for the first time ever in the III Vienna Diplomatic Cup.
32 teams from the Vienna diplomatic community, including #OPEC Member Countries, International Organizations and other agencies participated in the tournament organized by the Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria.
The #OPEC Team secured the fourth place in the Cup, after losing in the semi-final a closely contested match to Member Country Algeria — which ultimately won the tournament in the Final against Member country Saudi Arabia.
The OPEC Secretariat extends its sincerest congratulations to our distinguished staff members that exceptionally represented the organization in the tournament, as well as all family members and colleagues who supported the team throughout the tournament.
