The Ocean Thematic Centre exists to help the ICOS Ocean Observing Community deliver the data we need to quantify the oceans role in planetary C cycling
The final day of the 'Workshops on surface pCO₂ observations' is underway. Discussions on @SOCAT_CO2 data submission, quality control, Metadata and enhancements. @NOAA#SOCONET#surfCO2oostende#vliz#NOAA
Day 3 of the 'Workshops on surface pCO₂ observations' is underway. Yesterday was a wonderful day here @ VLIZ. Today our discussions commence on @SOCAT_CO2@Dorothee_Bakker#surfCO2oostende
Certified reference materials (CRMs) for seawater CO2 measurements are crucial for Ocean Carbon uptake and and OA research. Ensuring global security of supply is a key priority for our community. Heres @toebki from @ICOS_RI discussing ways forward at #OAWeek2021
And here's a quick link to the workplan itself. We will be modifying this in response to MSA feedback and publishing a revised version after the holiday season

Here’s a quick preview of what we will be presenting in our our townhall next week at @AGU_OS. Please come along to learn more about what we and @ICOS_RI do. We are hoping for a lively discussion!
Just taken delivery of these flyers - many thanks to @ICOS_RI for your help. Now ready for our townhall at @AGU_OS where we’ll be talking about our 2020 programme including the supply of standard gases to the network and the pCO2 intercomparison at @CompendiumVliz
This week was the Nordic @icos meeting at @chalmersuniv. Loads of exciting talks showcasing what ICOS is and how it helps. Many thanks to the organisers for a great meeting. Proud to present this poster on Norwegian ICOS lead by @sivlauvset
Here's Dr Ingunn Skjelvan from @NORCEresearch explaining what this mission is setting out to accomplish and why its important for the @ICOS_RI mission. Many Thanks to all those who are helping with this, good luck with the launch tomorrow. Fair Winds and Calm Seas!
Tomorrow at 10 am local two @saildrone will launch from @plocan on a mission to visit and calibrate @ICOS_RI stations in the Mediterranean and N Atlantic. For media contacts including filming opportunities please contact saildrone directly.
@Saildrone holds massive promise to routinely make high quality ocean observations. Already it has performed an incredibly journey around Antarctica shedding light on the S Ocean C cycle. We are delighted to be partnering with Saildrone and others in a new mission leaving soon!
The @OceanObs19 meeting is a key milestone in the global effort to understand the ocean in this era of rapid planetary change. This article in @FrontiersIn lead by Tobias Steinhoff describes the role the @ICOS_RI ocean network plays in monitoring sea surface CO2 uptake.
This autumn we are organising an instrumentation workshop in Kiel to link the ocean carbon pCO2 community to equipment manufacturers. It promises to be an exciting event - contact Tobias Steinhoff (tost@norceresearch.no) for more details.
Most calculations of surface ocean CO2 uptake rely on accurate measurements of surface ocean pCO2. We invite the community to bring their instruments to our inter-comparison exercise next August/ September at VLIZ. - Contact Tobias Steinhoff (tost@norceresearch.no) for details!
