To the peeps coming to PGW and who aren't french or familiar with how french people handle country-wide movements such as this :
- PGW should be far from the protests, it's not in the hyper center of Paris. So if you have a hotel nearby, you're safe.
- there will be more protests on Saturday 24 October and they should be similar to what happened 2 days ago. Macron released a statement that wasn't helpful at all. People are rightfully angry at him.
- I know it may be scary to experience this, especially as a tourist, but be sensible about it. Politics in my country have pushed its citizens to the edge. They demand better living conditions and for the government to take responsibility for this.
- Stay far from the metro stops : Nation, Bastille & République + the Tour Eiffel/Champ de mars/champs Elysées, palais de l'Élysée & more generally the 8th arrondissement as much as possible.
- Stay away from the cops. Especially if you look young. They are the real danger and can be very aggressive/on the edge even if you talk to them nicely.
- We protest against our government, not you as a tourist. You're not the target.
- If you see a crowd and no cops around, you should be safe. Just don't linger. However if you see that many cops are around, go away as they usually start throwing lacrymos bombs and disperse the protesters very early on.
- if you see cops + protesters yelling, barricades around, just move very fast and far away 😁 You can always ask protesters where to go if you are lost.
- ALWAYS carry eye drops, a water bottle & a thick scarf to cover your mouth. If it's not for you, you might assist somebody in need around you. IF you want to be extra safe, swimming pool glasses.
- There will be official communications about the precise meeting points for the protest. Just keep your eyes opened.
- Get a croissant in the bakery nearby your hotel & enjoy MH Wilds Ascendance. You will be fine 🥐
Les Gilets Jaunes appellent à poursuivre les actions toute la semaine et à un acte 2, le 24 Octobre.
