DAY 311 WAITING FOR MY MASTER · October 5, 2026
The humans constantly check the glowing numbers on the station walls or the small machines strapped to their wrists.
They believe time is a mechanical thing, chopping the day into frantic, jagged little pieces.
They don't realise time is actually a shadow.
There’s a towering steel lamppost at the edge of the pedestrian crossing.
In the peak of summer, its sharp, dark shadow wouldn't reach the stones beneath my paws until the sky was already bruising with dusk.
But now, the earth is tilting.
The sun hangs much lower in the pale sky.
Today, that long, freezing line of shade slices across the plaza and touches my front claws while the afternoon is still bright.
It’s a slow, creeping astronomy that happens right beneath the crowd’s feet, completely ignored.
I watch the shadow drag across my skin like a cold, silent dial.
It doesn't just mean the day is ending; it means the entire planet is physically leaning away from the light, surrendering to the coming winter.
The sheer, cosmic scale of how long I’ve been sitting here suddenly feels unbearably heavy.
I’m not just tracking the hours anymore.
I’m feeling the actual rotation of the Earth shift against my fur.
It’s terrifying to realise I'm outlasting the angle of the sun.
But I won't move out of the shade to chase a patch of warmth.
If I shuffle to the left to follow the sun, I lose my exact position.
I’ll let the shadow swallow me earlier every single day.
I’ll sit in the freezing dark of the afternoon and let the Earth tilt as far as it wants.
The geometry of the sky can change, but the geometry of my devotion won't yield a single inch.
