Cambodian workers are having to produce up to 700 T-shirts a day. Those 700 shirts would sell for around ยฃ60,000 in shops. So workers putting in six days of work producing 700 shirts a day would be manufacturing products selling for around ยฃ360,000. Yet these workers only receive about ยฃ40 a week in wages. They do the hard work creating the profits but are paid a pittance. This is how capitalism works worldwide. Waged workers everywhere are exploited and deprived of a proportion of the wealth they create. Workers may be somewhat better off elsewhere but even in so-called โadvancedโ economies like the UK, USA, Germany, France etc millions of workers are currently struggling to manage on the incomes they receive, while at the same time, the rich are getting richer. And when these working people have the opportunity to vote in an election, politicians always lie to them and blame their deprivation and suffering on other politicians, mismanaging state expenditure, welfare recipients, immigrants... anything but the truth which is that capitalism will always function to chiefly benefit an asset-owning parasitic privileged minority, which is why it has to be replaced.
