OK, so I let this one sit for most of the day mainly because I was doing other shit and this is going to be a long-winded response to a lot of guys that hate the word “nuance”, but here we go. Yes, Adderall is in the same family as methamphetamine, but they are cousins. They are nowhere near the same thing. First, Adderall *is* pharmaceutical amphetamine it’s not *like* a pharmaceutical drug. It *is* a pharmaceutical drug. There is also pharmaceutical methamphetamine (desoxyn) but he didn’t mention that because it wasn’t inflammatory enough. Cocaine is also not structurally similar in function because it is a blocker, not a releaser like adderall. Cocaine is closer to Ritalin than it is to Adderall. Secondly the risk profiles are ABSURDLY different in size and scope. A “street sized” dose of meth would be 50x higher than that of a typical daily usage of prescribed adderall. 20mg vs 1,000mg. Even if you were taking the maximum daily recommended dose of Adderall, a street level hit of meth would still be some 25x larger. But really the bottom line here is that macro-level studies have shown that people with ADHD that go untreated are at higher risk for substance abuse later on in life than people that were treated, and this inflammatory bs decidedly drawing a false equivalency, only stands to muddy the water akin to people refusing to vaccinate their kids because they believe it causes autism.
